The 54th Annual Roundup of '99 was held this year at the usual time and place, the first Saturday in March at the University Club in Boston. The number attending was 25, considerably larger than in recent years. Those present were: Ed Allen and his nieces, Wilhelmina Allen and Mrs. Theodora Allen Pierce; K. and May Beal; George Clark and his friend Clifford Fifield; Joe Gannon; RalphHawkes; Spade and Muriel Heywood; Artand Tat Irving; Warren Kendall; Eunice Miller, sister of Peddie; Dave and Esther Parker;Herb and Laura Rogers; Eddie Skinner; Herband Agnes Watson; Bill Wiggin; Phil andSadie Winchester.

The 55th Reunion committee held a two-hour meeting in the forenoon at which plans for the reunion program were discussed as well as means to effect them. After a general exchange of greetings and felicitations and the enjoyment of an aperitif or two by some, Dave Parker, who presided, pounded the historic gavel, a relic of the Old Pine, and lit the traditional green candle at about one o'clock. After a gustable repast which included New England chicken pie, Dave commenced the post-prandial proceedings bywarm words of welcome and about the sentiment attached to these meetings held annually without a break for more than half a century. The Secretary then made a few remarks about absent members, their current status and activities indicated in responses to advance notices of the Roundup. Everyone around the table had something to say. Warren Kendall told of plans for the 55th reunion and the expected attendance to be reported in later bulletins of the Reunion committee, of which he is the busy and capable chairman. Eddie Skinner reported on our money in the bank. Spade Heywood gave a pleasant reminiscent review about himself and others. K. Beal reviewed some of the problems in preparation of the notable 36th Class Report. He exhibited a beautiful volume of it bound in green and gold leather and, inscribed on the fly leaf, a testimonial to his able contribution as the editor-in-chief. P. Winchester spoke briefly about the Class contribution to the Alumni Fund and the annual campaign soon to begin. Pleas to Bill Wiggin for one of his characteristic orations were not rewarded, although he did make some brief remarks. So it went around the festive board for most of the afternoon. Motion was made and carried that the executive committee of the Class appoint a committee to nominate Class officers at the Class business meeting at the Reunion.

The following is from a recent issue of the Manchester, N. H., Union Leader: "Hawley B.Chase of Newpor has announced his candidacy for State senator in the 8th Senatorial District, a position currently held by Jesse Rowell of Newport. It will be Chase's second bid as a Democrat. In announcing, Mr. Chase said: 'Notwithstanding the fact that I like Ike and endorse his efforts to clean up the graft and subversion left by the Truman administration, I do not feel the need of changing my party label at this time.''

See you in Hanover, most all of you, we hope, next month.

"Back to Arcady in June."
