WITHIN the space of two and a half hours, from 2 to 4:30 on Saturday afternoon, October 22, Dartmouth was transformed into 1 new college - spiritually speaking. It wss during those hours that the football tean upset Harvard in the Diamond Jubilee game in Hanover, erasing the frustration of the preceding four weeks and demonstrating that the will to win is a powerful force when turned loose.
It is hard to say wheher the team carried the Dartmouth supporters along with it or the crowd carried the team along. At any rate, there was a vibrant spirit binding all of Dartmouth together that afternoon. This carried over fron the highly successful Dartmouth Night program on the eve of the game. Spirit of this sort is a genuine thing and a good thin; in the life of a college such as Dartmouth is. It has not been much in evidence in Hanover in recent years, and what took place at Memorial Field on the afternoon of October 22, coupled with other signs this fall, has been welcomed by many as; resurgence of what, in capitalized words, is called the Dartmouth Spirit.
