BY mid-October all Dartmouth fall teams except for the jayvee and freshman football teams had seen action and both of these open this weekend (October 21). The gymnasium has been as busy as ever during the first month of college with the heavy demand for tickets to the Dartmouth-Harvard game in Hanover this year presenting a new but bearable problem.

Already the basketball floor has been laid down in the gym cage ready for the first workouts in early November. Artificial ice will be abuilding in the Davis Rink later in November and almost before one realizes it the winter practice sessions will begin.

Disappointing but not completely unexpected has been the performance of Dartmouth's 1955 football team to date. In their first four games - two at home and two away - the Indians have dropped all four contests. Coach Bob Blackman's V-system has had a rugged baptism at Dartmouth and many observers are prone to comment, "It may be a new coach and a new system, but it's the same old Dartmouth team." Closer inspection reveals that the team may be weak, especially in the backfield, but is in better physical condition and is playing tighter, harder-hitting football than most recent squads.

The varsity soccer record has been more impressive with four wins and one defeat to date, while the varsity cross-country team has split evenly with one victory in two dual meets and second place in two triangular meets. The '59 soccer team opened its season with two wins, while the frosh cross-country runners are undefeated in two dual and one triangular meet.
