It certainly is hard for Charlie Zimmerman to keep out of the news in the public press. The latest civic assignment he has taken on for himself is that of publicity chairman for the 1955 campaign of the Greater Hartford Community Chest which seeks $1,450,605 for their 1956 budget.

Motorists passing through the sovereign state of Connecticut have had much experience this fall detouring around the many Connecticut brooks and streams which have overflowed their banks and washed away roads, factories, and dwellings. Doc Roberts, who still resides at 53 Prospect St., Stamford, will put up any '23 family that may be detoured his way. Doc is a member of the law firm of Curtis, Brinckerhoff, and Barrett.

A Wah-Hoo-Wah for Lou Wilcox for being recently named a member-at-large of the Alumni Council. Lou's connection with and activities for the Alumni Association of Northern New Jersey have been many and varied. He was for many years a director. He organized this group's Dartmouth enrollment committee and did such an outstanding job he was named to the national enrollment committee of the Alumni Council. In his new post as a member of the Council itself, Lou will participate in the formulation of broad, long-range policies on admissions, courses of study, programs of future development and expansion of the College plant and facilities and other important management functions entrusted to the Council.

Roy Burgess has since 1935 been one of those elusive members of 1923 that our secretaries have not been able to catch up with. Thanks to the Sunday Telegram of Portland, Maine, which the present secretary was skimming through the other day, we have the following information: The Reverend Roy H. Burgess has accepted the invitation of the Central Congregational Church of Eastport, Maine, to serve as its minister. He was a student for two years at Dartmouth, then graduated from Bates College. Roy did graduate work at Rutgers and Bates, receiving his M.A. degree from the latter institution in 1935. A native of Plymouth, Mass., where he graduated from high school, the Rev. Roy was for 26 years a teacher of history in the high schools of West Lebanon, N. H., Island Falls, Oxford, and Caribou in Maine, and Freehold and Matawan, in New jersey. As pastor, he has served in Machias, Union, Norway, Calais, and Vanceboro, in Maine.

The Harvard game weekend was the highlight of the four home games this fall. Hanover was swarming with 1923 men. The crowds in the Inn lobby and dining room and various restaurants were so great it was impossible to catch up with many of our class. I did see Opal Marie Zimmerman in Webster Hall Friday night. They say Charlie was spending long hours in Trustee meetings Friday and Saturday. The Rices, Caszvells, and Shapleighs were at one of the motels on the Lyme Road. The Flanigans, Youngs, Metzels, and Sollitts were at another motel on the highway to the "Junk." The Rusty Sargents were with us.

At the Yale game we were the guests of Edand Madelyn Lyle. At a dinner party at Tedand Marj Shapleigh's, we saw the Bill Wallaces and Haub Haubrichs.

In September a group of investment houses in Boston and New York headed by Estabrook and Company issued, with the approval of F.F.E., a prospectus covering the public sale of 60,000 shares of Massachusetts Indemnity Insurance Company. The issue was oversubscribed, with such investors as Harvard College and Century Fund taking large blocks. The prospectus brought to light what many of us have known for years; namely, that Roger Billings, president and general manager, has done an outstanding job in not only increasing the assets twenty times since taking office, but in establishing the concern as a leading company in the accident and health insurance field. From the same prospectus we learn that W. Leroy Temple became vice president, general counsel, and a director in 1953. Roger's son Roger Jr., also became a director in 1953, graduating from Harvard Law School.
