Somewhere in the neighborhood of eighty (in round numbers) of the faithful turned out October 25 for our annual Fall Smoker. The near-record group partook of the liquid refreshments and various salted edibles, while Irving Marsh, from the New York HeraldTribune's Sports Department took over the speaker's platform.
Mr. Marsh gave out with a number of succinct comments relative to Ivy athletics, Presidents' agreements, scholastic rules and policies, lack of spring football practice, etc. Then, having invited the assembled to try to embarrass him with questions, Marsh more than held his own with all interrogators. Before and after the more formal part of the meeting, John Almquist held forth at the piano.
With the busy holiday season coming up directly, there will be a hiatus in our formal activities till early in February, when we plan to hold our annual dinner. Efforts are already underway to obtain a guest speaker from Hanover who will be of certain interest to the group. Details soon. Merry Christmas to all.
