As mentioned last month, the executive committee of your class met in New York City at the Dartmouth Club on December 10. Present were Fritz Alexander, Al Bildner, JessChadwell, Norm Falkin, George Ferrarese and Austin Lohse.
In hopes of having a good-sized group present, 22 past and present members of this committee were invited. Those attending, largely from the New York area, enjoyed a pleasant afternoon of discussion of 1947 class business.
Newly appointed Treasurer George Ferrarese announced a surplus of $960 in the treasury on the day of the meeting. However, it is anticipated that we will operate on a deficit again this year, largely because so few class members pay their dues. Unless the picture changes radically during the coming few months, the yearly dues will have to be raised next year to $5, still a bargain with the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and other class services.
Discussion of the Alumni Fund program this year brought out the little-known fact that we have reached 100% of our goal only once, our graduation year, 1947. Since that time we have been most inconsistent with our Fund activity. Al is making plans early to organize Assistant Class Agents so we can make a fast start and gain enough momentum to carry us over the hurdle we have passed only once before.
Regional Dartmouth activities of the class members provided the most serious and lengthy discussion. Efforts are already underway to interest classmates in their local Dartmouth Clubs. Fifty-six Dartmouth Clubs have been contacted by your Secretary in hopes that at least once a year, at the major club activity, one or more of our classmates will organize a telephone campaign in the area to induce other classmates to attend this particular Club activity.
Since the meeting was in New York City, a committee of Fritz Alexander, Bob Widholm, and Norm Falkin was appointed to telephonecampaign this area for a class dinner scheduled at the Dartmouth Club of New York for February 2. Discussion will be held at this meeting to determine what activities will interest such a group. We hope this type of program will spread to other areas but recognize that where regional class membership is not so large, the most practical activity is joining in the plans of local Dartmouth Clubs.
The DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE now goes to the homes of 626 classmates and their families. Tentative plans have been made to distribute the MAGAZINE to all class members next year at the additional cost of $117.
The meeting closed with the decision that a Class Roster should be printed during the spring of 1957, just before our 10th year reunion. The committee also agreed to meet next in Hanover, May 7, at twelve noon inside the main entrance of Baker Library. If you are up that way, drop around.
Needless to say we would be very glad to have comments on the above notes. Address your replies to me at the above address.
