Our last meeting was a very special one and required that we depart from our usual third-Thursday-of-the-month schedule. Burton E.Martin '33 was in Tokyo during the first week of April, so we held the March-April meeting on April 7 to make it possible for him to attend. Tony has been teaching American Literature here for a number of years and he kindly consented to talk to the group during the meeting. We met at the Union Club for a fine steak dinner and afterwards heard Tony discuss the problems of understanding the Japanese, and the Japanese understanding us. It was a most enjoyable evening, and well attended by 26 alumni with their wives and friends.
Our next meeting will be in early May when we hope to welcome some Dartmouth men who will be here in Japan for an International Chamber of Commerce meeting. We have been fortunate in seeing many Dartmouth men as they arrive in Japan, such as Lloyd Brace '25 and his wife when they were here in mid-March. We were able to have a fine small get-together for them at the Chinzanso Restaurant. Again we welcome any Dartmouth men who are in Japan or who will be here at sometime or other.
