A meager supply of news leads to a short column this month, so please let me know what's happening out there. Before launching into the news, another brief reminder about your local Dartmouth Club's need for and interest in men from the younger classes. The Club here in Philadelphia is anxious for new men in the area to join, particularly from the classes '60 through '66. Dues are minimal and the events are very enjoyable. I'm sure that most of you live in areas served by a nearby club - look into it.
A couple of letters this month. Steve Lippman and wife, Susan, wrote from the Virgin Islands where they've gone on a winter vacation. It seems that being a student at Columbia Business School pays well these days. Sue is working with a New York ad agency.
Denny Eagle announced the birth of a son - Jevin Setth (Class of '88)-born November 17, 1966. Denny graduated from Tuck and is in his third year at Harvard Law School. He intends to enter the corporate world, using his training from both schools to the best advantage.
Those of us who have followed Steve Nazro's peripatetic life were happy to learn that the Naz has settled down in Boston. He's group sales promotion director and assistant publicity director of the Boston Garden. Naz should be seeing a lot of hockey there, as well as other sports - but it seems that his first job is handling the visit of the Ice Capades, which I'm sure he doesn't mind.
Another '63 whose career we've been following is Wally Chappell - our classmate, the actor. Wally's latest activity was his role as a missionary in the movie "Hawaii." He had a featured role (hint: look for a missionary with a moustache to find him).
Wally spent a summer with the Dartmouth Repertory Group, another with the Honolulu Repertory Theater and studied in Hawaii, where he received his M.A. He's now on the drama faculty of the University of Minnesota and will obtain his Ph.D. in the near future.
Marriages are continuing, but the class must be almost depleted of its supply of bachelors. This month's report: Joe Casey to Judith Kelley in December at Colby College in Waterville, Me. Joe is studying history at the University of Maine; his bride is a Colby College graduate. Elise Kelsey and John Merrow were married in December also - in Connecticut. John's studying for his doctorate at Indiana University; his bride graduated from Briarcliff and Columbia. Another December wedding was John Reinertson's to Mary Haskins. John, a lieutenant in the Army, is assigned to unusually rigorous and hazardous duty - he's with the U.S. Mission to the United Nations-or was. By the publication date of this columnJohn should be back in civilian life - with Lever Brothers in New York. Mary, an alumna of Wheaton, is with the American Broadcasting Company in the city.
And, Pete Lent returned to Hanover for his wedding at the Church of Christ on December 28. His bride was Marjorie Stearns, a Smith alumna who did graduate work at Penn. Pete went on to Stanford after Johns Hopkins and will receive his doctorate soon.
Just a few engagements to report - Carl Fogelberg to Nancy Holt, a Skidmore grad who was with the Peace Corps in Peru. Carl returned recently from duty with the Marines in Vietnam. I don't know where Carl is now. Ted Suess, who is with Rohm and Haas here in Philadelphia, is engaged to Anne Scherlacher, a senior at St. Joseph's School of Nursing here. Ted plans a fall marriage. A June wedding is planned by Mary Prial and Bill Hart - who is studying at the University of Maryland Medical School.
That will do it for this month - write!
