The Dartmouth Rowing Club marked the start of its Centennial Year this fall with the largest number of members in history, a new addition to the club boathouse, nine eight-oared shells, and a fall program of practice and informal races designed to make this year the best in history.
Heavyweight coach Thad Seymour, 150-pound crew coach Albie Povey, and freshman coach Phil Cole have already had their crews on the water for almost a month as they attempt to take advantage of the good weather. The Class of 1960 candidates seem unusually large in size and number, and here indeed are the Dartmouth crews of the next few years.
The Dartmouth rugby team has picked up quickly this fall and faces a five-game schedule plus a hoped-for Christmas trip to Bermuda... . The wrestling team begins fall workouts and plans to try to have a freshman team as well this year. ... The only freshman team in action so far has been the '60 football squad under Coach Earl Hamilton. Rated as one of the best freshman teams in recent years, the Little Green fumbled itself into a 13-7 defeat against the Holy Cross freshmen on October 6.
