Why don't some of you people send me a line about yourselves and your doings that I may have more to write about? I think you forget that the fellows are deeply interested in the things you do even though they seem small to you.
A letter from Percy tells me that he has appointed Wattie chairman of our fifty-fifth reunion committee. He and Wattie have written me that they made reservation for the class at the White Cupboard Inn at Woodstock, Vt. The other members of the reunion committee are Frank Drake and Arthur Olivers. The Inn has nine rooms with baths on the first floor and plenty of other rooms on the second floor to care for all of us. The cost for two days and nights will be ten dollars according to Wattie whose letter I cannot find. That is a very small charge. I'll get Wattie to write me again. Wattie, this is notification to you.
Percy, Frank Drake and Ernest Watson drove down to Enfield to see Bob Clark who seemed greatly improved. He was able to visit with them on the porch. They also saw Mose Perkins who was up. You all remember that Mose had a cataract removed from his eye a short time ago. By this time he is probably home to the joy of Harriet.
As I told you last month, not only did the total alumni exceed their record in the Alumni fund, but our class stands eighteenth among all the classes with a scoring base of 56, a participation Index of 55, and a total contribution of $2,941.93 as of July 30, 1956. Hermon, my hat is off to you. Congratulations!!!!
On September 19 Stella and I took the train (I am not allowed to drive any more as I have glaucoma in my left eye) to visit our daughter and her family in Connecticut. She and her husband have been in Europe all summer and came back only shortly before our arrival. Coinciding with our visit was that of an Englishman who is an employee of a great tea company in Ceylon. Perhaps you remember my son-in-law is a tea importer. We had a delightful visit-with the family for a month. My grandson Tom Barnes Clapp 52, after several years of business, has gone into teaching. We enjoyed our great-grandson Timothy Warren Holcomb, our granddaughter's son. Yes, boys, I am a great-grandfather. Silly, isn't it?
It is good to be at home again. I love Florida.
Be sure to send in your cards engaging rooms for the fifty-fifth reunion. Personally, I expect to see every man of the class.
If any classmate would enjoy the company of Stella and me and can stop for us at our daughter's in Westport, Conn., we shall be glad to accompany him on the drive to Woodstock. I do not drive since the coming of this glaucoma.
God bless you all.
