It happened quite some time ago, but Ernie Boyd, long a resident of Worcester, Mass., buzzed his old room-mate (that's me) during a business trip to New York and it was my pleasure to see and partake of the wonders of the Starlight Roof on the Waldorf for the first time in my life. "It's a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there" say many visitors to New York! Now I know what they mean. Some day, I'm going to visit New York and see all the wonder spots - as a visitor!
Not exactly in the same category, but. nonetheless delightful, was a luncheon get-together the Missus and I enjoyed with Herb Potter's charming daughter Julie shortly after her arrival in New York to pursue her studies in the field of drama and music. While I haven't seen Herb in lo these many years, I am inclined to go along with Dale Barker — Julie doesn't seem to resemble her old man! Julie met a couple other '15ers, thanks to a gracious assist from Kell Rose and Art Nichols on a couple of impromptu drop-in calls on them. Julie got a great thrill (as did your Secretary) out of the panoramic view atop the Socony Mobil building.
A card from Art and Charity Nichols from Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, tells of a pleasant seven days at sea since leaving New York late in September. A couple other Dartmouthers, Dana Condon '28 and his wife, were aboard ship, making the down trip doubly pleasant. A stop-over in Havana added to the enjoyment. How was the Casino, Art!
Howie Fuller has been tagged with a new nickname at the Veterans Hospital in Buffalo - "Dr. Sunshine." A recent patient there tells how one of the day's highlights is Manager Fuller's daily visiting around the hospital. Everyone looks forward to the event because the former Army general has a pleasant word for each and every one. How he manages to talk every day with each of the hospital's 900 patients is somewhat of a mystery, but they insist he does. "His cheerful morning greeting certainly helped me and many others to endure our stay" said the informant, "and he deserves the nickname we gave him - 'Dr. Sunshine.'" With the Yuletide coming up, this kinda hits the spot!

Miriam Redfield reports that Dick suffered a serious stroke last May affecting his speech, but is recovering nicely otherwise. How about dropping him a line!
Hal Davison says he had a fine visit with Tommy Tomfohrde and Al Livingston at a Dartmouth luncheon while attending a convention in San Francisco last July.
The reason we didn't get to see Art Tower at Reunion last year was that he was on his way to Alaska to visit his son John ('47), who has been practicing pediatrics at Anchorage for the past two years.
Bob Bigelow is following the team again this fall - at least Brown and Harvard up to this writing. Lucky fellow!
Quote from Charlie Comiskey: "I hated that 14-7 Penn score." Who didn't?
Bob Frothingham: "Now that I've become a New Englander, am looking forward to seeing the boys up this way oftener." Understand the Barkers entertained the Frothinghams and the Fosters over cocktails at their West Dennis cottage on an October weekend.
Susan Griffith writes: "Charlie is in Pakistan! I'm off on Wednesday (10/10) to meet him in Manila." My gosh - won't that feller stay put!
Paul Rothery: "How could the Big Green lose to a team that hadn't won in 19 games!" Guess the boys didn't care for that Penn game.
At this writing, your Secretary has had to pass up the Harvard game - a business trip to Minneapolis conflicting. The Missus allows that no business is worth that sacrifice! What's a guy gonna do?
While football is done for this year (and I hope "well done" will be the edict from us), echoes of associated gatherings linger on. I am told that '15ers who attended the NightBefore-Harvard-game dinner and the Kike Richardson pre-game party conducted themselves in their traditionally decorous manner and a good time was had by all. '15ers spotted at either or both gatherings (and am I ever envious) included: Dale and Bess Barker, Gib and Claire Campbell, Hal and Mrs. ClaHin and son, Eben and Margy Clough, Sid Crawford and son, String and Grace Downing, Jack Ferguson, Chan and Dot Foster and daughter Beck and husband, George and Mae Martin and son, Jack Mason, Norvie Milmore, Doc and Priscilla Noyes, Doc O'Hara, Herb Potter and daughter Julie, Russ and Isabelle Rice, Kike and Pearl Richardson, Dick and Mrs Scharmann, Ned Shea, Al Sherman, and George Simpson. Any omissions I am sure will be forgiven.
Because of space restrictions this month, further echoes will be held for another issue.
We regret to announce the death of Jack Warren. He retained his deep interest in things Dartmouth until the last and we are saddened at his passing.
