Because of the Alumni Fund contributors' list, the edict on the Notes this month is short and sweet (we hope!).
Buster Sawyer reports running into JohnnieKimball back in August and same looks very well. Why not—living in Florida nine months of the year! "See you in Hanover next June," says Buster. Which is getting to be quite a stock expression - looks like the band wagon is going to be jammed to the hilt next June!
Chuck Ingram puts it thus: "Something very important will have to intervene to prevent my being in Hanover next June."
Between Carol and Edna and Hazel, most of us got stymied in one way or another. Jack Mason reports plane delay in getting to Hanover along in September. While there, however, he and Kay made contact with Chanand Dot Foster (Chan in connection with the College audit); the Roy Laffertys, who were representing the Class at a bequest meeting; Mitsui, who was entering his son and who hopes to return for the reunion; and JackBowler who assisted at some arduous duties on the Hanover Inn porch.
Leon Aronowitz writes that he's looking forward to meeting with the whole gang at the 40th.
Chan HarwoocL's son, Frederic Holmes Harwood, was married to Nancy Rutledge Comstock in New York early in October. The couple will reside in Middletown, Conn.
Another wedding of interest to us all took place September 30 at Hingham, Mass., when Johnnie Johnson and Mrs. Ed Curtis were married. Attending the ceremony were Mrs. Curtis' sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar A. Curtis Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Oakley C. Curtis. Johnnie and Bea left early in October for a trip to California and will make their home at South Orleans, Mass.
Among the many who have sampled the famous Johnson hospitality down on the Cape were a few new ones this summer - Carl Gish,Harry Ellms, the Gabe Walkers, the JohnnieKimballs, and the Phil Murdocks.
Jiggs Donohue is now located with General Motors - Overseas Division in New York City. Ash St. Clair came out second best in a bout with a new power lawn mower during the summer. Skillful surgery probably saved three fingers that got chewed up on his right hand. The index finger and thumb fortunately escaped, so he can still write, although it's quite an effort. Best wishes, Ash!
Bud and Tex Doe have turned over the ancestral manse at Harvard, Mass., to son Bill, and are building a new ranch type house across the street. Bud still has to keep an eye on activities, as well as lend a strong hand.
Russ and Isabel Rice spent part of a June vacation in Canada and took part of the Saguenay River trip. By coincidence, they ran into the Class of 1912 who were making the trip on the same boat, as an off-year reunion. Russ says he now is an honorary member of that illustrious class, which "next to '15 must be one of the bestl Might be a good idea - this off-year reunion - for us to consider," says Russ. "We had fun!"
George Daisy has been named manager of the Barbour Mill of the Linen Thread Co., Inc. in Paterson, N. J. George has been with the company 35 years, mostly as plant manager of the flax spinning mill in Greenwich, N. Y., and was transferred to the Patterson Administrative Offices two years ago.
Among the new officers elected by the Association of New Hampshire Assessors at their 44th annual convention in Concord was FletchLow of Hanover, as first vice president.
Russ Durgin's son, Laurence L. Durgin '40, pastor of the Central Congregational Church of Providence, R. I., preached at a Union service in Rollins Chapel during October on the topic, "Grim Darkness and the Prevailing Word." Mr. Durgin was a former president of the Dartmouth Christian Union, and Russ, as we all know, was long associated with YMCA work in Tokyo.
What! No changes of address this month! That leaves room for the list of Alumni Fund contributors - which I'm glad to note is the longest ever printed.
