As your new Correspondent for the Club takes hold of scribe and tablet for the first time, a great deal of news needs recapping and future events merit hawking. Monthly luncheons sponsored by the Dartmouth Downtowners began in earnest at the Seaman's Institute, 25 South St., last September. Such notables appearing in speaking roles were Carl "Mutt" Ray '37, Rog Wilde '21 and Dean Arthur Upgren from Hanover. This neophyte organization continued on their spirited way into the New Year with good turnouts at both the January and February get-togethers. With a mailing list of men below 14th Street of just over 225, the luncheons usually attract forty to fifty green-tied individuals from '11 to '54. Anyone planning on being in New York around the middle of the month or anyone in the New York area who would enjoy a look at the Dartmouth Bears and Bulls may contact your Correspondent to get on the mailing list.
The Club festivities this year have been accorded a real interest by the participants. The "Meet you at the Club, after the game" party after the Columbia football win was well populated with smiling faces of members, guests, wives and dates. As usual the Holiday Tea Dance held December 28 evoked a throng of Christmas cheerers from all parts.
The "Mardi Gras" Dance to be on Valentine's Day will bring sweethearts and merrymakers to the Great Hall of the Club for a mid-winter pick-me-up of fun.
A "Sports Night" to be held later on this month is expected to be an SRO affair, with the names of Big Guns from Hanover being whispered in anticipation. The St. Paddie's Day Party, March 17, should bring out more green in the club than on those Irishmen behind the upstairs bar. If you're going to watch the parade, why not drop in later at the Green Headquarters on 39th Street, and hear some fine music? See you there!
