Bob Hardy is one of the few who appreciates your secretary's problem each month in amassing material for these notes. He has reported that Ken Sullivan and his wife dropped in to see him while on a trip through Florida. He is devoting some of his time to foreign relief work, which takes him out of the country from time to time. He also dropped the word that Ed Burns had purchased a condominium at Siesta Key, presumably with the expectation of spending his winters there.
The University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees has granted emeritus rank to Stowell C. Goding, professor of Romance languages, who will complete a long career at the university when he retires in September of 1970. Stowell joined the faculty in 1927. For several years he has been director of the Summer Institute for Advanced Study for Secondary School French Teachers in Arcachon, France, sponsored by the U. of Mass. and supported by the U. S. Office of Education. He is a former president of the New England Modern Language Association and has twice been decorated by the French Government for "eminent merit as Professor of French languages and Literature in American colleges and universities." Dr. Goding received his M.A. from Harvard University and his Ph.D. from Wisconsin University. He is the author of numerous articles in the French Review, The Modern Language Journal and The Massachusetts Teacher. His books include "Hommes Et Commerce" and "Cites Unies."
Two more retirees have gone to Florida to enjoy the warmer climate during their declining years. Norm Strickland, ex-banker, has moved to 308 Lebeau St., Clearwater, Fla. 33515. John Hamilton, erstwhile B. F. Goodrich salesman, now resides at Apt. 107,478 Tequesta Drive, Jupiter, Fla. 33458.
