Nothing like starting off the New Year with news of such happy occasions as additions to the family.

Patricia Ellen was born to Dan and BaileyProvost on July 3. After producing three boys, Dan and Bailey were beginning to think that there was "not a girl in a carload." With the added responsibility, Dan has to fatten the coffer, so he has recently transferred to the advertising agency of McCann-Erickson, Inc., in New York City. Note to Don Hagen - I am not stealing your stuff. The glad tidings were obtained from Dan and Bailey in person at New Haven. Dan's chest was bigger than ever.

Congratulations are also in order for Chuckand Mary Bolte, who adopted their third baby in August, a girl. The score is now two boys and a girl. Charley McLane took time off from his teaching duties at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania to be the godfather of the new addition.

Rumor has it that Unk Richardson will be pacing a hospital corridor one of these days, if he has not already done so.

In spite of the fact that we were not permitted to use the particular parking-lot location that we had designated for a pre-Yale Game picnic with the prior approval of the Yale University Athletic Association, our '41 banner flying from one of the goal posts was spotted by a lot of the folks that converged on New Haven for the Yale Game and a good time was had by all. Among those encountered at the pre-game festivities were Frank and Su Hall, Dick and Polly Hill, Danand Pat Stillman, Hank and Carol Childs, Stuand Audrey May, Bruce and Kathy Friedlich,Chuck Bolte, and Dan and Bailey Provost. Also spied in or about the Yale Bowl were Don and Barb Lade, Bob and Jane Mensel,Lance and Marshall Ballou, Snuffy and FranSmith, Hank Frechette and his wife, Ray Seabury, Monte Winship, Red Miller, Phil Hall,Don Brown, George Canfield, Felix and DickOlmstead. My glasses have needed changing for a long time, so I know that I missed a few.

Among the unexpectedly missing were Hugh Murphy, the "Yale Athletic Authority" and Russ Garfield, who had sojourned from N. H. to the Montana wilderness for a hunting trip.

After the game, Bruce and Kathy Friedlich entertained a few of the die-hards at their beautiful Connecticut summer home. No one went swimming this year, though.

House-hunting and home-buying being quite the vogue these days, '41ers won't let it be said that they are behind the times. Having recently returned from California to Boston to assume the position of manager of the Boston office of the investment firm of Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Beane, Ed McMillan has recently purchased a new home in the nearby suburb of Hamilton, Mass. Dick andPolly Hill have just bought a new home in their home town of Marblehead, Mass. Ed andNorma Marlette are house-hunting in Snyder, N. Y., a suburb of Buffalo, where they now live. Stu and Audrey May are house-hunting on Long Island, seeking the aid of the real estate expert, Buzz Willis.

Before vacating their Queens apartment, Stu and Audrey May are throwing a cocktail party. I hope that the '41ers present will be there with plenty of news.

I had lunch recently with Bob Harvey in his home town of Washington, D. C., after visiting his plush executive office at Kiplinger Letters. Pete Keir was supposed to have joined us for lunch, but he was waylaid en route from his office at the Federal Reserve Board. Bob and Barbara motored from Washington to Hanover for the Holy Cross Game, to treat their oldest son Mike to his first college football game. Bob reported that there was a good turnout of '41ers present. Among those he spied at Memorial Field were Steve Winship, Oscar Israel and his two boys, Dutch Cotton and Don Hanks.

Cliff Stratton has recently left Washington's largest law mill to join the legal staff of the Air Transport Association.

Bob and Barbara Harvey were recently guests of Pete Glenn at the International at Laurel, Md. As assistant to the President of U. S. Industries, Inc., in New York City, Pete makes frequent trips to our Nation's capital to entertain government dignitaries.

Bob Nissen was one of the distinguished guests present at one of Pete's recent festive affairs.

Pete always could pick a winner. So he decided to attend the Republican Convention in San Francisco.

Almost everyone is glad that the campaign and the election are over. One of the highlights of the entire campaign, regardless of party affiliation, was seeing President Dusty Rodes of Bradley University appear on T.V. with President Eisenhower at one of his major addresses from Peoria, Ill.

From California way comes the news that George Dreher is doing a bang-up job as pastor of the Arlington Community Church, with the invaluable assistance of his charming wife as an organizer of bazaars and other community activities, and that Nick Carter is deeply engrossed in the trials and tribulations of his San Francisco investment business. Nick's fine family consists of three daughters, the oldest of which is already a junior in high school, and the middle one having already graduated from grammar school. And of course there is the good woman.

Which reminds me, will all you wives please make one more New Year's resolution, in addition to the many that you have already made and intend to keep? The "old man" is a busy guy. When he gets home at night, all he wants is his brew and the T.V. guide. He does not feel like writing any letters after a hard day at the office. As a result, I really sweat about the third of every month when it is time to get this column out, because of the paucity of news. You girls will be my friends for life if you will resolve to drop me a short note when something interesting happens in your family or when you hear or read about something interesting happening to a member of our '41 family.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
