Take off that false face, Falstaff, we know ya! Hallowe'en is past and the annual bribes have been dispensed, no doubt, to the brats who live down the street in order to avoid soaped windows on the family chariot and missing mail boxes. Seems as if the treats must be more and more substantial every year, too. Remember when a penny and a handful of popcorn was a big deal? If the loot gets any better, we can give up our jobs and live off the gatherings of ghosts and goblins!
All of which has absolutely nothing to do with the brief but important news at....
THE HITCHING POST
The marriage of Dick Putney and Virginia Marie Potter of Briarcliff Manor took place August 17. Visitors to Ann Arbor can find the Putneys at 1109 Brooklyn (Street?) after school hours. The bride is a member of the University School faculty and Dick is engaged in physics research at Michigan.
On September 7 Miss Elenor Coburn became the wife of Larry Smith in Bloomfield, Conn. She's a grad of Wellesley and the groom is a member of the University Club in Hartford. He was also a member of The Bachelors of Hartford, but he must have resigned. N'est-ce pas? The couple traveled to Norway for six weeks, a mighty smooth caper for a starter.
INFANT INFO
No doubt there is more news for this department than we've come across to date for only two prospective Class of '79 papoosesses, or papoosi, find their names in print this month. Elder of the pair is Thomas Biddle Kenilworth Ringe III whose folks, Tommyand Cindy Ringe, just moved to Berwyn, Pa. So far the youngster, born June 10, hasn't helped his dad with any legal problems brought home from the office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Philadelphia.
First seeing the light of day on August 25 was Sherman Main Clough III. Number II, Sherm Clough of Schenectady and G. E., says the offspring is hefty enough for a tackle or guard assignment having weighed in at eight pounds, four ounces.
Felicitations and greetings, guys, dolls, and tads!
SERVICE SCENERY
Well, here's a department you can't hardly get no more. Despite the "economy move," trivial though it may be, the Department of Defense continues to latch onto and hold onto a few good men. Among them are certain medics presumably saving a few bucks to help buy a shingle which will be hung out later. Paul Lena was reported at Fort Sill, Okla., last June, and Ken Anderson wears a couple of gold stripes on his Navy uniform at Willow Grove, Pa. Should one of you Injuns develop fallen arches along Main Line, give Ken a call at his Ardmore home.
In addition, we have career men in each of the four branches of the services. Representing the Army, Capt. Frank Lion is currently stationed at the Language School, Presidio of Monterey, Calif. Hey, Frank, is Kirill Abramovich still out there in the Russian department?
Major Jim Landrigan - Congrats on the new oak leaf, Jim - is now stationed at Parris Island with the Marines. And latest address for 1st Lt. Walt Lane is Elgin Air Force Base, Fla.
A nice letter from Lt. Bill Williams last spring brought us up to date on his cruises with the Navy. Bill's most recent ship was the submarine "Darter" (SS-576) which had its shakedown trip to New Orleans, Havana, Caracas, St. Thomas and San Juan. Tough itinerary, what? The Williams' clan now includes a daughter, Gail, born in October 1956. Willie teaches at Annapolis and saw Cdr. Gale Felton, erstwhile NROTC exec of our days at Dartmouth.
We'd like to hear from the rest of you fellows who still have your wardrobes assigned to you.
GRAPEVINE REPORTS
Various address changes and feelthy post- cards from about the nation have revealed the doings of barristers, bankers, and assorted business men. To keep you up to date on where to take your trade, we'll survey as many as possible and offer to plug any others you feel we've overlooked.
Still copping top billing, Tony Ambrose is a partner in the Newark, N. J., law firm of Ambrose, DeRose, and Kramer. Tony has found time to keep his hand in with his music and theatrical interests as well. Down here in the Quaker City another legal beagle is Jim Moore who has been with Duane, Morris and Heckscher for a little over a year since graduating from law school. Jim is in the business department. How else do you get a five-week trip to Europe these days?
Traveling just as far, Bud MacDonald made the jaunt from his job with Nelson Boyd and Menary in San Rafael, Calif., to attend the American Bar Association conclave in New York City in July... .Pat Brewster is now an associate lawyer with Mirick, O'Connel, deMallie & Lougee in Worcester.
Glad to help you parlay your paycheck into an impressive bundle is George Singer who became associated with Shields & Co., members of the New York Stock Exchange, in White Plains, July 1. George will be happy to send you their poop sheet on market conditions. When the happy day arrives that you have extra cash, keep in mind Phil See who was elected assistant cashier at National Shawmut Bank, Boston, in June. For the Chicago group, Si Morand can offer some cogent advice after graduating from a four-month course in investment banking sponsored by the Central State Group of the Investment Bankers' Association of America in co-operation with Northwestern's school of commerce. He's now representing Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Beane. Besides awaiting your class dues (or did you send a check already?), Si is on the board of governors of the Wilmette United Fund.
Pilfered from Duke Duffy's excellent newsletter are some interesting statistics on BruceRogal who has a travel service in Harrisburg, Pa. Phyllis and Bruce have daughters five and three, Kim Chait and Anne Priscilla respectively. Bruce also operates a trading stamp company to keep himself busy.
Jerry Mensel is with Scott Paper Co. in Fort Edward, N. Y. Rog Mathes is in the lumber business in Hudson, N. H., and a nearby competitor is Jim Cavanaugh in Manchester. Don Cook toils for the Virtis Co. in Yonkers, N. Y. Bob Tredwell analyzes insurance for Shell in Manhattan. Emil Hudak is a buyer with McCurdy's Department Store is Rochester, N. Y.
In and around The Hub are John Newby, veep and general manager of Whetton's Oil Co., Needham; Al Teel with an insurance firm in Reading; and Dune MacLeod working for the telephone people of Boston.
INKADENTAL INTELLIGENTZ
A newsy note from Don O. Brown tells us Park Taylor has two sons and a nice job at Foote, Cone & Belding in Chicago. Dave and Mary Lou Bull recently had a daughter after two boys. Dave was elected Justice of the Peace in Northfield, Ill., so any of you bachelors who need the services of a good man, take note. Don has been made assistant treasurer of Squire Dingee Co. in Chi and brings home their pickles, preserves and jellies to his wife and two daughters.
Don J. Hall, married and parent of one son, is assistant to the prexy of Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. Fritz Jewett has an impressive array of positions including assistant secretary-treasurer of Potlatch Forests, Inc., director of The Columbia Electric Co., Spokane, and member of the board of trustees of American University of Cairo. Marv Kohl is vice president of Mars Fudge & Fruit Co., Inc., in New York where they manufacture bakers' supplies.
Plaudits to two members for earning their doctorates this past June. Larry Starlight won his Ph.D. at Harvard. Dave got his degree from Michigan with a dissertation on the "mind-body problem" which he solved in symbolic logic. If he means it's tough keeping your mind on a problem when some of the bodies go slinking by on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, it would take more than symbolic logic to solve it! "Scat" can be found philosophizing at the University of Arkansas nowadays.
As we hear of the sporadic reunions that occur when the '50's meet on the 50 after football games, you'll get more news of the gang. Meanwhile, enjoy your turkey the end of the month and write if you get work.
