By now most of you sharp-eyed 50's have detected the new point from which these monthly mutterings emanate and will have deduced that living in the hometown of The Reader's Digest has caused us to abbreviate our comments. Unfortunately, that is not the only reason - news just has been scarce. Between now and fall, we hope things will pick up.
Around New York there are several conclaves in action or planned that should interest a goodly number of you. The monthly Downtowners meet each second Wednesday of the month and in the past have often found our class very well represented. There is a new affair starting in the midtown New York area at the Dartmouth Club and 42nd Streeters might look into that. Also, Chuck Gardner and his cohorts are planning a dinner for June 20 in Manhattan. Besides seeing your long lost roomie or the guy who fudged math homework with you, you might help organize future get-togethers, so make an effort to attend if you possibly can.
CUPID'S CORNER
We'll have to accept quality instead of quantity this month along Lovers' Lane. Only wedding since last time took place in Denver, April 6. The bride was Cynthia Read Rippey who capitulated to Dick Catron's vows. Dick heads the American Silicone Co. out there. Cynthia graduated from Connecticut.
A March 2 announcement of events to follow concerned Dick Putney and Miss Virginia Marie Potter of Briarcliff Manor, N. Y. They'll splice the nuptial knot in August. The prospective bride graduated from Briarcliff Junior College, received B.A. and M.A. degrees at Michigan, and is on the faculty of the University School in Ann Arbor. Dick got his Master's in chemistry and is now a research associate in physics among the Wolverine clan.

The Bill McCallums' son, James Dow II, was born March 31 and is named for his paternal grandfather of Dartmouth English Department'renown. Bill has been in Mason City, lowa, for the past year with Turner Construction Company.
Wes and Pat Field are proud parents having welcomed Deborah Victoria into the world on April 4. She weighed seven pounds, six ounces. Wes is with Chase Manhattan Bank in N.Y.C.

Here's a potpourri of patter to wind up the year. Bill Wallace, finished at Wharton, came on to New York last year and currently toils for New York Life Insurance Co.. .. Walt Lindenthal was made department manager of sporting goods at Newark's Bamberger Department Store in February. Thai cannot only get it wholesale, he can straighten out his slice and legitimately practice putting on company time now! Also in Newark is a new barrister, Tony Ambrose who passed the bar several months ago and opened a law office in March.
A news release April 2 brings us up to date on the exploits of John Henry.
"His international career has already taken him to Puerto Rico and Singapore. In April he arrived in Liberia on a mission for UNESCO. Part of his task is to work at the national fundamental education center set up by the Liberian Government. He will teach English to trainees who will later open schools throughout the country. He received his M.A. from the University of Michigan in 1952."
On April 5, Rev. Joseph L. Sullivan was awarded the degree of Doctor of Theology by the Central School of Religion of Indianapolis. The ceremony took place at Pullman Memorial Universalist Church in Albion, N. Y., where Joe is the pastor.
Bill Cross has been named manager of the internal audit department at Time, Inc. ... Rennie Brighton feeds a spouse and three youngsters by dint of his efforts at Diesel Publications in Stamford, Conn.... Dick Hollands was the only '50 reported as having stayed at the Hanover Inn since our last column.
Jack Brodie shows no signs of nervousness as he approaches his wedding day, May 18. He's in New York these days peddling large lamps for G. E. He and Andy Wilde recently scouted the Cape for the coming season and approved the spot for vacations. ... JackHarned, Bob Mcllwain and two other Injuns won't go that far, though, as they have a summer place and bought a boat to assure pleasure during the hot season.
