Dartmouth's jayvee football squad, coached by Doggie Julian, lost the opening game to the University of Vermont, came back to defeat Army 19-6, lost a close game to Yale 7-6 and then won over Harvard 19-12.
The Dartmouth rugby team after six straight victories, lost the final game of the fall season to a highly regarded Westmount Club from Canada, 8-0. Previously the powerful Indian ruggers had defeated M.I.T. twice, while both the A and B teams (even rugby has two squads now) won over Harvard by 16-8 and 8-6 scores respectively. The team also chalked up a 19-3 win over the New York Rugby Club.
Dartmouth Rowing Club crews took to the Charles River in their only fall meet and split evenly against M.I.T. crews. The varsity lightweight and freshman heavyweight crews triumphed, while the varsity and jayvee heavyweight boats both lost to M.I.T.
In freshman football the A team, coached by Earl Hamilton, posted victories over Brown and New Hampshire while losing to Holy Cross, Yale and Harvard. The freshman B team, coached by Chick Evans, defeated Kimball Union Academy and New Hampton, while a contest with Vermont Academy was cancelled.
Tom Dent expects some help next year from a strong freshman soccer team which won five games and lost two. Coached by Wade Burian, the Pea Green booters lost only to Harvard in a close 1-0 game and to New Hampton, in an overtime game, 4-3.
Dartmouth's freshman cross-country team fared no better than the varsity as it lost dual meets to Brown, Harvard and Mt. Hermon, finished third in a triangular meet with Columbia and Yale, and finally came through at the season's end to win a triangular meet over Boston University and M.I.T.
