This is a brief story of our classmate, Gaius Burnap Frost, and his descendants. Gaius was born August 8, 1869, in Brattleboro, Vt. and was the third oldest member of our class. He died October 19, 1915, at the age of 46. He married Bertha Anna Whitney a year after graduation. She was a teacher both before and after her graduation from Castleton (Vt.) Normal School.

Gaius was a teacher all his life. He was principal successively of Haverhill Academy, Haverhill, N. H.; Topsfield High School, Topsfield, Mass.; and of Holliston High School, Holliston, Mass. He finished his teaching career as superintendent of schools for ten years in the Groveland, Rowley and Georgetown Union in Massachusetts. He served well in his chosen profession during the nineteen years he lived after graduation.

His widow carried on his job for the remainder of the school year. Then she moved to Newburyport, Mass. to get help for the education of her sons from the Wheelright Fund. She believed education was the most important treasure for her children. She lived to see her three sons and daughter well established. She died in 1944. She had done a Herculean task

James Whitney Frost was the first child. He was born July 24, 1898, and as the "class baby" he was given, and still has, a silver and goldlined mug engraved "1896" certifying this distinction. James graduated from Groveland High School and Tilton Seminary and then followed in his father's footsteps to Dartmouth, graduating in 1920. He received his Ed.M. degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1929. ...

After four years as high school principal, he served as superintendent of schools in various communities in Connecticut for 26 years. After three years as Audio-Visual Education Consultant for the Connecticut State Department of Education, he has been employed for the past four years as Educational Consultant for the H. B. Motion Picture Service of New Haven, Audio-Visual Education Equipment Specialists.

James married Florence W. Towne of Milton, Mass. They have one daughter, and four sons, as well as an adopted daughter, and nine grandchildren. Their home for the past 24 years has been at 208 Grove Street, Putnam, Conn.

Robert Burnap Frost, the second son, was born September 2, 1900. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1923 as a Chemical Engineer, and was employed for many years in administrative positions and as superintendent of one of the manufacturing plants of the Lone Star Cement Company. He is presently employed by the Fuller Company in Catasauqua, Pa., which builds equipment used in the manufacture of cement.

Robert married Helen M. Hamilton, a graduate of the University o£ Kansas. They have three daughters—Elizabeth, a graduate of Duke University; Anne attending Westchester State Teachers College; and Joanne now going to Business School. Robert and Helen live at 4.01 Howerton Road, Catasauqua, Pa.

Daniel Carter Frost was the third son. He was born July 6, 1906, graduated from Northeastern University, and from Dartmouth College Thayer School, class of 1928, as a Civil Engineer. He taught at the Newark College of Engineering, Villanova and also at Valpariso University.

Daniel married Esther Mae Landis or Lancaster, Pa. Two daughters, three granddaughters, and one grandson survive. Their one son, Gaius Landis, died in 1955 while attending Pennsylvania State University. Daniel died of cancer in 1952, and his wife died in 1954, also of cancer.

Lucy Eleanor Frost was born April 16, 1915, six months before her father died, so she never knew him. When Lucy was twelve her mother moved to Burlington, Vt. Lucy graduated from Burlington High School and the University of Vermont in 1936. She then went to Hartford and served two years under E. W. Butterfield, Dartmouth 1897, then Commissioner of Education for the state of Connecticut.

She married Prosper William Parkerton, November 1, from whom she was divorced in 1952. From this union there are three sons, Prosper Kendall and Justin Burnap, twins, now fourteen years old, and William Louis, now twelve.

Three months before William was born, Lucy was stricken with polio and was hospitalized for a year. She has made a good recovery, and for the past eight years has taught business subjects at Woodstock Academy. Her address is Mrs. Lucy Frost Parkerton, Woodstock, Conn.

There are now ten male descendants of Gaius Burnap Frost who have preference for student aid at Dartmouth under the Richards bequest. Let us hope some of these will want to go to Dartmouth, will pass the rigid entrance requirements, and so deserve the Richards student aid.
