If you haven't read Fred Chase's report to the class as Bequest Chairman, we urge you to do so. It makes interesting and inspiring reading as showing the loyalty of the class in this field to our College.
William Clough II, grandson of our Bill Clough, has been nominated as first choice for a vacancy at West Point by Congressman Perkins Bass '34 of Peterboro, N. H. Young Bill is a student at Holderness School, where he is prominent in skiing.
Speaking of grandsons, my oldest, Kendrick W. Putnam, has entered Haverford College recently. A protracted session of illness unfortunately prevented his entering at the beginning of the first semester. He is the son of Dr. Bill, '30, of Lyme, N. H.
Another word concerning my personal interests, I had the pleasure of having Stanley Besse with me to share the little celebration recently of my birthday.
Fred Chase, writing from Florida to keep me informed of additions to the number of '05 families, tells me that Charlie Goodrich and Ruth have reached that land of comfort, also the Tolmans (at Clearwater Beach). The Tucks, John and Marion, are delayed until March, he wrote. They had recently caught a glimpse of John Jr. on television. The latter, stationed down in the Antarctic for the season, had been placed in charge of a small group there.
In The Boston Herald of Dec. 16, 1956 there is a review of a book by Halsey Loder. This is "The Happy Life of a Doctor" by Roder I. Lee, M.D. After praising in detail this book, Halsey adds, "Much more could be said to urge the wide reading of this saga of a long generation of rapid advance in medicine."
Writing from Hotel Laguna, "Cy" White gives a brief account of his travels with Hilda. En route to Laguna Beach, Calif., they spent about three weeks and visited Acapulco, Taxco, Pa Paz and Mexico City, an enjoyable trip. They plan to leave Laguna Beach March 11. On their return trip they are to see Los Angeles and San Francisco, then on to Evanston to visit their daughter Margaret. Meanwhile they had had a visit from their older son Richard, who is with the Flintkote Paper Company. Sounds wonderful!
A recent note from Roger Brown tells of what sounds like a very pleasant Dartmouth gathering at the Holmes Beach Yacht Club, Anna Maria, Fla. on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Including fifteen wives and one sister, there were 34 present at dinner. Representation by classes: '07 nine, '08 four, '05 three and one each from '06 and '03. Besides Roger and his wife, Jane, there were Charlie and RuthGoodrich and Fred Estes with his sister, Etta Oliver. The 'OS contingent furnished music, with Fred at the piano and Charlie, with his rich bass, leading the singing. They regretted that more of the '05 sojourners in Florida couldn't make the party.
