Dartmouth heavyweight crews started the 1957 season auspiciously with easy wins over Amherst. The varsity heavy-weight crew outdistanced Amherst by four lengths over a one-mile course and the JV Dartmouth boat won handily by six lengths.

This spring is the last season for Coach Thad Seymour who was surprised in April when the Dartmouth Rowing Club dedicated a new shell - the Thaddeus Seymour - in recognition of his outstanding services to the sport during the past three seasons.

Dartmouth crews face their stiffest schedule ever this spring, but have a strong nucleus of veterans returning plus some very talented newcomers. The oarsmen hope to win the Compton Cup this year and perform well in the EIRA Sprints and EARC Regatta. Brown and Boston University are the other crews being met.
