Simon J. Morand III '50 (left) receiving the annual award as Class Treasurer of the Year at the dinner of alumni class officers in Hanover on May 3. Charles E. Widmayer '30, ALUMNI MAGAZINE editor, made the presentation with the following citation:
Simon J. Morand III '50, last year as the youngest class treasurer in the dues-collecting business you entered the fray with the youthful zest and advance planning of a David against Goliath. Your aim, like David's, was high and you made a resounding killing with a remarkable first-time record of dues payments by 66% of your large class of 726 men. That 1951 has now come along and done as well may in part be due to the fact that you showed it could be done. And there is more than one stone to your slingshot, for this year you have again turned in an impressive job.
Alumni Magazine circulation in your class was advanced this year to 100% of graduates and 92% of all members. Your annual fall letter to the class, announcing dues procedures, thanking classmates for their support and inviting suggestions that will help you to do a better job, shows an awareness of the treasurer's important role in class affairs and of his opportunities for service to both the class and the College.
You are a hard-working, cooperative and indispensable part of an unusually fine team of 1950 class officers, all five of whom are here tonight. For your own individual achievements, and in recognition of the cumulative, long-range benefit that will come to Dartmouth from a class that musters its strength at this early stage, we honor you with the Dartmouth Class Treasurer Award of 1957.
