Two new administrative aides on the Dartmouth staff this fall are Charles F. Kettering II '53, who is Assistant to the Director of Admissions, and William Hartwell Perry '55, who is Assistant to the Director of Financial Aid. Kettering, who left at the end of his sophomore year to serve four years in the Air Force, received his A.B. degree in 1957 and was with the American Brake Shoe Company in New Jersey this past year. Perry, who was president of the Rowing Club and coach of the lightweight crew his senior year, attended the U. S. Coast Guard Academy after graduation, was commissioned in February 1956, and will complete his tour of active duty the first of the year. His service leave this fall was spent working in the financial aid office.

As a substitute for the required orientation course, The Individual andthe College, freshmen this term are voluntarily attending an experimental series of lectures having the same general purpose: to serve as a forum for discussing the responsibilities and opportunities of those beginning higher education. Prof. Fred Berthold Jr. '45, dean of the Tucker Foundation, is the director. To date, Prof. Francis L. Childs '06 has spoken on Dartmouth's past, Prof. John L. Stewart on the esthetic life, President Dickey on being a gentleman, Prof. Francis W. Gramlich on psychological problems and personality development, and Professor Berthold on religion and the intellectual environment. This month, the Rev. William Coffin, chaplain at Yale, will discuss the religious life, and Dean Arthur E. Jensen will speak on the meaning of a liberal education.

Dartmouth's 1958-59 Concert Series opens November 14 with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, conducted by William Steinberg. Four later concerts will given by Erica Morini, violinist; the Roger Wagner Chorale; George London, operatic baritone; and Rudolf Serkin, Pianist.
