LESS than a month has passed since College opened, yet a lot of sports action has been packed in and much more remains before the fall season ends in late November. As of mid-October, the Big Green teams were doing pretty well, with the varsity football team recording three wins against one defeat and still perched atop the Ivy League with a 2-0 record. The varsity soccer team had a two-two record, with two wins and one defeat in league competition for second place; and the varsity cross-country squad had three losses. Varsity totals showed five wins against six losses.
The Class of 1962 is reported to be strong athletically as well as academically, and this is borne out by the results to date. The freshman football team has a one-one record, the frosh B team has one win to date, the freshman soccer team is undefeated in three contests, and the freshman cross-country squad also has three wins and no defeats. Totals to date: eight wins and only one defeat for the Pea Greeners.
On a more informal but none the less important side, the Dartmouth Rugby Club has chalked up three straight victories. The Dartmouth Rowing Club crews are hard at work under Coach Pete Gardner, with more than 100 students participating in fall training, while baseball Coach Tony Lupien has had his squad out for fall practice and reports the results as "highly satisfactory." Boxing Club workouts are just getting under way, and wrestling Coach Bill Craver, who doubles as freshman football line coach, is getting his wrestlers primed for action. Before another month passes the basketball, hockey and other winter squads will be ready to go.
