From Judas to Quizling the canons of the English language have boomed a long list of proper names to indicate treachery. This month 'Fifty-four makes its contribution to this infamous list, for that self-anointed-head, that self-designated "fearless" leader of bachelorhood, John Heston, has defected. Only a few months ago the haughty Hes frisked boldly onto the pages of Hazqui brandishing the banners of misogamy. Receiving a token rap of disapproval from the editor, the N. W. Ayer & Co. advertiser from Philly scurried yelpingly into the ranks of the betrothed. Three days after Christmas Betty Burch of Bradford Jr. and the U. of North Carolina announced her engagement to the Hes in Bronxville, N. Y. The reign of Black John had ended.
Your correspondent picked this news off his wire-tap at an Executive Committee meeting at the Dartmouth Club of New York City in late December. On hand for the session were Pete Geithner, who was with the Navy at Oceana, Va., but now graduateschooling at Johns Hopkins; Boston and Buffalo bankers Ben Bowden and Kev Sullivan; U. of Pennsylvania med student DonBelcher; Skip Weymouth, who is with the American Hospital Supply Corporation in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.; and Dave Mc-Laughlin, now assistant to the vice-president of operations for the Champion Paper Co. in Hamilton, Ohio.
Also on hand were Lon Chaikin, production engineer for Quoizel Inc., New York lamp manufacturer, and Perry Davis, who was presented with a plaque indicating highest achievement among class agents in the 1957 Alumni Fund drive.
However, there was evidence of heavy infiltration in the bachelor ranks before the Heston desertion. At a Dartmouth shindig, arranged by Skip Weymouth and Joe Gruel, in Ann Arbor, Mich., after the Michigan-lowa game in early November, the married 'Fifty-fours including the Dean Berrys, the Bob Oneals, Skip Grintons, Bob Martins, Tom "Tissue" Scotts and Ky Lewises virtually overran the tattered regiment of singletons - Bud Siquiland, Art Patterson, Bayard Johnson, George Shaw, John Milnor, Rip Coffin Cobe Addison, Jim Stead, Sam Bradley, Steve Mullins, Skip and Joe. While the East-coasters were discussing the Yale game Messrs Martin and Weymouth along with Rusty Jackman '52, John Plunkett '57 and Butch Edgar '53 took to the band stand and gave the 100 or so present some nostalgic renditions.
Most of the reuners are in some way attached to the University, though Art and Rusty are to receive business school diplomas this month and head for a two months' sojourn in Europe. The Michigan meeting gave definite indication that matrimonial subversion was on a dangerous increase. He plans to return to Bridgeport, Conn., when the military obligation is fulfilled.

Walt is an NYU engineering grad. Barbara Rothman of Newark, N. J., was betrothed to U. of Miami medman Larry Mamlet in October. Armstrong Cork Company's Russ Benjamin found a real "stopper" in Jeanne Martin of St. Augustine, Fla. Jeanne, a Stephens College grad, held Russ long enough to announce their engagement last August. And Willa Fae Fisher of Steubenville, Ohio, and Wellesley College announced nouncedher be thro thai to Harvard Lawman Mike Spicer.
