I am pleased to report that I have more mail from classmates than I have ever had before in these four fleeting _ years since graduation! So thanks to all of you who have been updating me, and please know that though it may take a while, your news will make it into the column. So here we go. Eric Portland writes from Charlottesville, Va., where he has just completed his first year as an M.B.A. student at Darden. Eric worked for Andersen Consulting for three years before beginning grad school. At the time that Eric wrote to me, he had just returned from a trip to Chicago, where he visited with several '94s: Michele Davies was one of Eric's hosts in the Windy City. "She had just returned from a trip to Japan," writes Eric, "but jet lag didn't stop her from showing us all of the hot spots there, including the Wiener's Circle," According to Eric, this place is Chicago's hot-dog version of the Soup Nazi. Josh Heikkila was the other gracious Chicago host of Eric and friends. Josh is busy doing a variety of things conducting survey research at the University of Chicago, teaching Sunday school, and teaching himself to play guitar. As for the other '94s that (I think?) were in Chicago with Eric: Kim Blanchard has finished her course work for her Ph.D. in clinical psych at Rutgers and will be working on her dissertation and starting on a year-long hospital internship before officially becoming Dr. Blanchard; Shelley Branam was working for APM Consulting (health care) in Chicago, but by now is probably in some foreign destination, as she was planning to "finish up" in May and take a year to travel around the world on a part-leisure, part-philanthropic tour, that will include Australia, Asia, Africa, and Russia; Paul Morf finished up at Yale Law School and is now back in lowa clerking for a federal appellate court judge; Elise Wellford finished art school in Savannah, Ga., and is now working for a public relations firm in San Francisco; Kerry Whitacre completed her master's in public policy at Georgetown and is now working in Annapolis as a Governor's Policy Fellow for the state of Maryland. Currently she works with Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy; Artie Zweil works for Boston Private Bank & Trust doing commercial lending for "rich people and former classmates." As for other '94s in Eric's part of town, Andrea DeShazo just completed her second year of law school at UVA and Jim Adelizzi is a fellow first-year at Darden with Eric. Thanks for the thorough run down, Eric, and please continue to keep me informed! OK—some quick but important news from Erika Katz before I'm out of room "I am getting married in August and Alissa Peck and Amie Rappoport will be in my wedding party." Erica and fiance, Jay, will be living in both New York and Colorado. Congratulations! Okay, so I am out of room, but have so much more to relay next month. I know you can't wait. In the meantime, for those delinquent non-correspondents among you, here's a little assignment: Buy a postcard of the biggest tourist attraction in your city/town, write me a little note on the back of it, and mail it. I don't care if it's of the Statue of Liberty, a shopping mall, or the world's largest barnyard animal just send it. If you don't have any tourist attractions, or if your life is just too complex for something so inane, here's a simpler idea: go to the bar nearest you, ask for a napkin and a pen, and start writing. I can't wait to hear from you. Take care.
