Our wandering boy, Max Hartmann, who has been spending the winter in Fort Myers, Fla., has decided to stay there until July to see if he can get thawed out. Then he plans to go to Puerto Rico to visit his youngest grandchild, Robin's fourth. In the fall he hopes to spend a few days in Boston at the time of the Harvard game so he can attend our annual dinner. After that he starts for the West Coast on his way to Japan, India and way stations.

The March issue of the Christian Science Monitor carried a story by Eric Kelly under the heading "I Protest." In the article he says "Since the proposed 5 cent stamp is to be affixed to letters and since the increase in postage guarantees the practical costless distribution of comic books, sex magazines, quack medicines, etc., might it not be a good idea for people, who are obliged to support this distribution by paying higher rates on their letters, to have printed on their envelopes: 'We protest this 5 cent rate.' "

The first and so far the only answer to my request for class news has come from Winifred Glaze. In place of the box-top, which was to be enclosed to be eligible for the prize, she enclosed Pitcher's donation to the Alumni Fund. Among other things she wrote: Pitcher is in excellent health. Has more pep and ambition than most men half his age. Walks at least five miles every day over the hills with his dog and the neighborhood dogs. He also had five pet ducks but when they insisted on living in the house I had to get rid of them.
Last September Ralph and I became great-grandparents to a great-grandson, Scott Robert MacClean. Our daughter Marian's daughter is the mother. We also have two adorable grandchildren living close by, daughters of our son Bud, so they help to keep the both of us young and happy. It is over twelve years since we migrated to California. Time sure flies.
Have just learned of the sudden death of Leila Childs. I am sure that everyone in the class will want to extend to Francis our deepest sympathy.
