Philip H. Chase '07, as the outstanding Class Agent among those more than 25 years out of college, received the James B. Reynolds Trophy for 1957 at the annual dinner of class officers in Hanover on May 2. Mr. Chase also won the Ellsworth B. Buck Award for achieving the highest combined class rating in percentage of participation and of dollar objective. In presenting the Reynolds Trophy, Alumni Fund Chairman William G. Morton '28 read the following citation:
Philip H. Chase, Head Class Agent for the Class of 1907: For seven years now your unstinting labors have produced a steady increase in both the number of contributors and total dollars achieved in the Alumni Fund. This performance by one of our "veteran" classes would, in itself, entitle you to honors, but your accomplishments in 1957 were even more noteworthy. Last year, as 1907 celebrated its 50th Anniversary, you rallied your classmates and members of the 1907 family to new heights for any fifty-year group. For the first time in class history, 1907 gave over $10,000 to the Alumni Fund, with 154 members or their families contributing. Your participation of 133% coupled with the 161% of your dollar goal, produced a combined total of 294% - the highest recorded in 1957. By breaking all class records and achieving the best over-all totals of any fifty-year class, you won the Group I Green Derby and showed what can be accomplished by a class that was one of those participating in the first Alumni Fund Campaign in 1915. Over this 43-year period 1907 members and their families have given a total of $171,699 to Dartmouth through the Alumni Fund. For such support and for your efforts in leading 1907 to a magnificent 50-year record, the Alumni Fund Committee is highly privileged to honor you tonight as the out-standing Head Agent of a class more than 25 years out of college, with the 1957 award of the James B. Reynolds Trophy.
