It has been a rather disappointing and frustrating season for Coach Ellie Noyes and his varsity track team. They opened the season auspiciously with a 91-49 win over Brown, but then a scheduled meet against Boston University was rained out and a week later another dual meet with Manhattan was cancelled. The next meet with Harvard resulted in the first loss of the season, 85¼ to 54½ while in the most recent Heptagonal Meet, the Big Green came in last in a field of ten.

Although losing to Harvard, as expected, Dartmouth did well in some events. Rod Isaacson broke the College discus record with a heave of 147' 7½". with Dave Sloper second. Bob Rapp won the 100-yard dash, while Lynn Carlin copped the high hurdles and Karl Mayer easily won the javelin toss. Captain Dick Schad teamed up with Jim Wooster, Jerry Boyle, and Jack Nunn to win the mile relay race, but the Crimson strength in the dash and middle-distance events was just too much.

Dartmouth's real hope in the Heptagonal Meet was Karl Mayer, sophomore javelin hurler, who is not far off the College record with consistent tosses of 215 feet. Mayer, however, had a bad day and couldn't get off a good toss at the New York meet. He may enter the Central Collegiate and N.C.A.A. meets later this spring, but Coach Ellie Noyes is not certain at this writing.

Javelin thrower Karl Mayer '60 of Belmar, N.J., has been a track mainstay this spring.
