Being in the Mid West is tough on a confirmed Easterner during the football season. While we all saw the Wisconsin-Michigan game yesterday my thoughts were in the Yale bowl, and well they might have been in view of the outcome. That must have been a great game, and let's hope the rest of the season is the same. One man I'm sure was there was Alex McFarland who wrote of the rainy but very satisfying Harvard game, which led him and probably many others to get Yale tickets.

Wherever Pat Weaver is, things begin to happen, the latest being that McCann Erickson, of which Pat is Chairman, has broadened its world operations by absorbing an advertising agency down under - Hansen Rubensohn of Australia.

Chuck Pooler, senior vice-president in charge of administration for Benton & Bowles, Inc., has assumed responsibility also for the advertising agency's international operations. He is liaison officer between the New York office and the agency's affiliated offices in London, Toronto, Paris and Brussels, to mention a few, and also has the job of developing foreign operations. Chuck has been with B & B since 1941, becoming head of the research department the following year, and a vice-president in 1943. He became vicepresident in charge of marketing in 1952, and later that year he was named a senior vicepresident and director.

The press reports that once more Meade Alcorn is beginning to take interest in things political in now sponsoring the development of partisan politics in the city government of Hartford.

We have just received a card indicating that Frank McLaughlin is setting up a new law office for the general practice of law at 601 Capital Investment Building in Honolulu. Frank writes "This — to survive as a live candidate while Washington, D. C., ponders re the two permanent appointments to Hawaii's new Federal Court. Please thank for me all classmates who helped, at my request, Hawaii become the 50th state - even if it did cost me my position, for justice was done at last to the people of 'Hawaii-Nei.' Aloha."

Another announcement conies telling of a new management consulting service to commercial and industrial management now provided in the Pittsburgh area. It is headed by Howie Heimbach who formerly was Vice President of Industrial Relations for National Electric Products Corp. Howie is located at 310 Beaver Street, Sewickley, Penna.

'30 men have always been active in community affairs and another following the pattern is Jack Coppock who has just been appointed Chairman of the Commercial-Retail Division of the United Fund in Attleboro, Mass. Jack is Vice President of the First National Bank of the same city.

The Legislature of the State of New Hampshire set some kind of a record this year when it ran from the first of the year through mid-September. This has given rise to a desire for a constitutional amendment limiting the length of the session and leading the movement is Walker Wiggin, Chairman of the 1956 Constitutional Convention. Walker takes an active part in the New Hampshire political scene, as well as conducting his law office.

Congratulations are due Herb Garratt who has just been promoted to the position of Manager of the Manchester, N. H., office of the New England Tel. and Tel. Company. He formerly held a similar position in Portsmouth, N. H.

The paucity of news this month offers an opportunity to introduce a news note of a little different type. We happen to own a catalog of Dartmouth published in October 1829 — just a hundred and thirty years ago.
