Here in Charlotte it's been a busy fall for the Millers... a totally unexpected appendectomy for me ... quickly followed by Joan's trip to the hospital for the birth of our second child (first boy), Oct. 16. We're currently selling our house and packing for a move to Washington, D. C., where I'm due to join the Time Magazine bureau about the time you'll be reading this. If things go as expected, will be writing to you next month from the nation's capital.

Seasons greetings to you all!
