As we hit the old typewriter, to bang out a few words about the group, the Big Green has at least eked out one very fine victory on the gridiron - notably the 14-9 devastation of the Crimson. But by the time this reaches you, all of this and even the Thanksgiving turkey will be past history. We have a good many names to report of givers to the Fund, so for once, we must keep things concise. Here's hoping it's a white and merry Christmas for all of you everywhere.
The Dartmouth Night celebration was held in Minneapolis on October 26 with a strong showing for '51, including Dave Barker, BobMcCraney, Walt Bush, Jim Rogers, and BillFriedlander. There may have been others, however, as the Glueks' spigot was wide open, and yours truly was right under it. It also kept us right in the atmosphere to journey to Hudson, Wise., a few days later for a pleasant evening of hot-buttered rum and laughter at Bill and Sally Friedlander's beautiful new house overlooking the St. Croix river. Ricky and Wendy keep Sal busy, while Bill is researching for Minnesota Mining in St. Paul. That's it for the local news for the moment.
BARNSTORMING Sometimes it is with a deep red blush that we discover that we have placed an unused and unanswered letter in the wrong file. In general, confusion sometimes rears its ugly head to befuddle the best laid plans of yours truly. Bearing this in mind then, we should like to pass on the belated news of the arrival of Donald M. Brooks, son of Skip and Bill Brooks of our great clan. Perhaps we reported this earlier, we frankly can't remember, but the date of the baby's arrival was October 13 of last year.
I'm sure all of us join in expressing our great sympathy to Fred Ranney, whose father, of the Class of 1924, passed on last June 29. Fred is working in New York for the general chemical division of Allied Chemical Co., while Libby takes care of Kirstin Elizabeth (a year and a half) at their home in New Jersey.
First it was a race to the engagement rings, then we had some hurrying to get married, and now we find Buck Scott in the heated race for the largest family and title of "father of the bride." At the time of this printing, Buck and Mary had three girls - Mary, 2, Sally, 1, and Cathy, 2 weeks. If that isn't the finest record after three and one half years of marriage, I don't know what is. Heartiest congratulations! Buck is working as an industrial engineer for I-T-E Circuit Breaker Co., in Greensburg, Pa., and is reportedly working on a new book in cooperation with Dr. Kinsey. Title - Birth Control, Its Use and Misuse. Our third will be showing up next month or sooner, so perhaps Dr. Leslie will be called in by Buck for consultation.
We are envious of the following who were lucky enough to have been in Hanover during August: Bill Fraser, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hopkins and the William Lefflers. Congratulations to Joyce and Al LeClair on the arrival of their son John Powell back in May. Also drink, drink, drink to Brooks Dodge who was appointed early this year to represent the U. S. in the '56 Olympics in Italy.
The names listed above who have contributed to our unquestionable cause indicate that a strong vote of thanks is in order for all who have done the job, from Gary Mansur right on down the line. It isn't 100% but we did take the Little Green Derby and beat the pants off 1950 besides. Thanks to all of you and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, DAVE.
