Top Class Treasurer
JUNE 1959

Charles H. (Pete) Jones '23 was saluted as the Dartmouth Class Treasurer of the Year at the annual dinner of class officers in Hanover on May 1. Following is the citation that accompanied the award:

As might be expected of one who is no stranger to finance committees and has the large responsibility of heading the company that makes famous Bostonian shoes, you have filled the office of class treasurer for five years in a way that has added new strength to a fine class and has provided a solid financial foundation for all its activities. The 1923 class column refers to you as one of the stalwarts of the class, and although we. all know that what the ALUMNI MAGAZINE says is true, we have our own evidence for knowing that you are indeed a 1923 stalwart and, what's more, a Dartmouth stalwart.

The citation accompanying the annual class treasurer's award customarily includes impressive percentages of dues collections and ALUMNI MAGAZINE circulation, and in your case the figures fill the bill. Dues payments by 66% of all 1923 men this year is, with a single exception, the best record for any class of sizable membership; and payments by ninety non-graduates, or 50% of that portion of the class, is particularly outstanding. On MAGAZINE circulation, the coverage of 96% of graduates and 75% of non-graduates, to whom are added fifty widows of '23 men, stands as a very strong record among the classes thirty to forty years out of college.

In things both large and small you are a model class treasurer. The effective way in which you fill your important "class office and the spirit in which you render this service to the class and to the College both argue for well-deserved recognition as Dartmouth Class Treasurer of the Year.
