New Canaan

Favored with a balmy Sunday afternoon in July, the newly formed New Canaan Club entertained forty local members and their wives with a cocktail, party at the home of Club President Jack, Gunther '29.

Assisting Jack and Gerry Gunther in sponsoring the organization's first "coed" function were Mr. and Mrs. Dave Taylor '37, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Sutherland '50, Mr. and Mrs. Vail Haak '49, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gilmore '01, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Redman '06, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers Bayles '36, Dr. and Mrs. Markey Pullen '22, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bowes '30, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Pearl '25, and Mr. and Mrs. Manny Sprague '33.

Although the festivities were scheduled to run from 5:30 to 7:00, the first thirsty couples began arriving shortly after five and only darkness finally succeeded in closing the bar.

Joining in the "let's-get-acquainted" festivities were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kilgore '28, Mr. and Mrs. Web Blanchard '33, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hollenbeck '25, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hermes '35, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Richter '35, Mr. and Mrs. John Mallory '36, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wise '37 and their daughter. Also, Mr. and Mrs. John Devor '41, Mr. and Mrs. John Jenkins '43, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Howe '39, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Winstanley '46, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Meier '47.

In addition to the Club secretary, the Class of 1949 turned out Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Barr and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Woodberry. The Class of 1950 was also well manned by Dr. and Mrs. Stuart Kay, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. Renfrew Brighton.

Others spotted were Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Fryer '52, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Cole '53, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Harrington '54, Mr. and Mrs. Roily Linscott '12, Mr. and Mrs. Brown Dickinson '37, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Bryant '37, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Fisher '41, Mr. and Mrs. Bliss Thorne '38 and Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Goodwillie '28.

Judging from the post-party notes and phone calls, this could become an annual event.

The Dartmouth Club of Hartford sponsoreda Dartmouth-Yale rugby match in April atthe Farmington Valley Polo Club. The teamcaptains, Ted Price (l) of Yale and RollieKolman (r) of Dartmouth were greeted byCul Modisette '50, then president of the club.
