THE National Science Foundation has awarded $7,400 to Assistant Professor of Physics William P. Davis Jr. for basic research in gaseous electronics. The grant provides for a continuation of studies started two years ago on light and current oscillations which occur when a direct current is passed through certain gases at low pressures. Under his current grant Professor Davis also will investigate the light associated with discharge in a Geiger counter. Before coming to Dartmouth in 1955 Professor Davis was an instructor in physics at the University of Michigan. He was graduated from Oberlin College in 1948 and received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1954. He also served as a summer staff member at M.I.T.'s Lincoln Laboratory.
COLONEL Harold N. Moorman, recently Professor of Military Science at the College, has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, First Oak Leaf Cluster, for distinguished and meritorious service during his four-year tour of duty at Dartmouth beginning in 1956. Colonel Moorman is now a student at Military Assistance Institute prior to departing for Vietnam for duty with the United States Military Advisory Group.
