The Class Executive Committee met in plenary session in the heartland of Dartmouthdom, mid-October circa the Holy Cross game, and we haste to report the import. The list of names reads like a Who's Who in the Executive Committee of the Class of 1949 at Dartmouth: Bob Zeiser, the head man; Bob Alden; King Ball; Mike McGean; Ray Rasenberger; Bert Rodman; Tom Swartz; Ray Truncellito; Jay Urstadt; Al Wagner, the Treasurer; Dick Banfield, our Head Agent. The literary department, of Ballard and Struever, was the only hole. It is reported that these two men were too stupid to find their way there and had to register their feelings by long distance phone.

The Executive Committee concluded that signs are coming through that this class is climbing rapidly onto the ball. The analysis revealed that our men are a distinct cut above the average high-grade Dartmouth graduate, and are thus destined for much higher positions in the world of affairs. This has required a devotion to scrambling on top of their various heaps. Now much of the important work has been done and the warm moist Dartmouth thoughts are getting more and more chance for expression.

The most important thing taken up by the committee went rapidly from talk to action, and I'm not even going to tell you what it's all about, since it's supposed to be action not words.

Our class is going to mesh its big gears in Hanover every Dartmouth night from now on. You might steer your visit this way and partake of what goes on.

Lester Felton is now urologizing in a new office in Worcester, at 36 Pleasant Street. If your gall stones are nagging, have Lester fix things up for you.

Our agent in the Arts, William Bright Jones, Esq. (see recent coverage of WBJ's activities in the exotica of brass rubbings ... Newsweek, DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE et al.) has made it as an Advisor. Most of our youthful compatriots are still at the Do-it-yourself, Name-for-yourself-Making stage of life; Jones is on the star studded list of heavies assigned to keep the Art program of the Hopkins Center on the far out wide and handsome. Our man is listed as an author and art historian, and not just as a butcher and rubber, so you can see we have just begun to write him up. The idea of artists at Dartmouth calls for all this writer's imaginative powers. Well, progress is rolling over us.

Einar Grell, Dr. Grell you realize is Head of the Half Hollow Hills High (Huntington, L. I.) Science Dept. And here is another member of the class who is making a name for himself, to wit ecologically, florally and faunally. The National Science Foundation, that übiquitous blesser of the attack on scientific ignorance, is blessing Einar three summers running with a little money to conduct a survey of the plants and animals in residence around Fire Island. The article goes on but I don't understand it.

I think we've caught George Hartmann in the act of marrying Anne Katharine Martin in these columns before, but we didn't mention where you can find these lovers, and it's in Hayward, Calif., where George and General Electric collaborate.

Dick Elliott from Duxbury, Mass., a pediatrician, will be our representative on that exciting flier in international help, the good ship HOPE (Health Opportunity for People Everywhere), a good ship lollypop filled with doctors, dentists, nurses and other health specialists. All this, with the exception of the ship, which is a former Navy hospital ship, will be supplied by private contribution ... donors of materials and money have come from industry, labor, and private individuals. First stop will be six months in Indonesia; then on to Viet Nam for four; then to Okinawa, Korea and Pakistan, all countries which have invited the ship. The doctors will treat people and will educate local people in medicine, nutrition, public health. During the month trip over the staff will actually learn the Indonesian language, a further triumph for the forces of light over dark. Dick has been a clinical fellow at the Children's Hospital Medical Center of Boston, where he has been a specialist in adolescent medicine. After a Dartmouth A.B. and a Tufts M.A. in the arts, he finally got on the medical track and took his degree in B.U., then further training at Johns Hopkins and Boston City Hospital. We are honored to have our man aboard this terrific project.

Paul Bloodsworth has been appointed eastern sales manager for the Kaiser Steel Corporation and will head the company's sales office in New York City. Paul has been with Kaiser Steel's New York office since 1955, serving first in general sales, then as tubular products sales representative, and finally as district sales representative for all Kaiser steel products. In his new post he will be in charge of sales for the eastern United States as well as overseas purchases made through the New York office. Paul and his wife Virginia are the parents of four children and live in New Shrewsbury, N. J.

Bud Howard was a member of a twosome that beat all the other Ivies in a golf fight at Skokie Golf Course out in way out Chicagodom. Fourth year in a row yet. Go, Bud.

Zandy Taft is our political representative in New Hampshire. His efforts this time have been devoted to the election of former Governor Hugh Gregg, in the capacity of vice-chairman of Republican committee organized for that purpose in Hillsboro County. Mr. Taft was a member of the 1959 New Hampshire State Legislature, is president of the Greenville Electric Lighting Company. Zandy and Eileen have three children.

1949 is doing big things in College Admissions. Seward Weber has moved in as Assistant Director under Eddie Chamberlain '36 at one small New Hampshire trade school and Al Quirk has taken over the same spot at the University, same state. Buck comes back to Dartmouth from Boston where he was chief planner for the City of Boston Community Planning Division. He was also a director of the Cambridge Neighborhood House, a neighborhood settlement house. The University of N. C. set our man up in this planning business, which he practiced in Greensboro, N. C., Woonsocket, R. I., and in fact all over the state of R. I. before going to Boston. Brother Quirk on the other hand comes to his position of power and prestige from the faculty of Manchester (N. H.) Central High School, were he was a pedagogue in the disciplines of English letters and debating. He took a Masterate at the University of New Hampshire, where they must have recognized a good man. There is no record of Weber being married in these files. No, let's try that again. There is no record in these files of Weber being married, whereas Quirk will bring the former Patricia Russell back to his second alma mater. She's his wife. 1949 Fund Contributors
