These days everyone is talking about the great promise that the dawn of a new decade has for all. Let's hope they are right. Taking one thing at a time, one thing is certain that i960 should be an exciting year, at least on the national level. On the personal level, I am sure that we all hope for each other that it will be a year that will see further increases in the '41 family; fat raises and numerous promotions in the business world; and good health, tranquility and happiness at home.

Already political hopefuls are vying for headlines, all of whom are hopeful of scoring upsets in November. As mentioned in the January class notes our able Newsletter Editor, Don Hagen, chose an off-year election to challenge the supremacy of the Republican party in his hometown of Madison, N. J., known as the "Rose City." Don conducted an active door-to-door campaign in his bid for Councilman, basing his appeal to the populace on two-party rule. Unfortunately the electorate was too lethargic and the opposition from the old pros was too strong for him to turn the tide. Modesty prevents Don from writing about himself in the Newsletter, so it is my privilege to bring everyone up to date on his activities. Politicizing is only a side line for Don. He is still in the employ of the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company, where he probably got his bell-ringing experience, and he is presently doing graduate work at Columbia University.

A recent delegate of a different nature was Ez Crowley. Ez was one of three Dartmouth alumni who represented the College at the Annual Awards Dinner of the National Football Foundation held in New York City in November. He is also a member of the executive committee of the College's National Enrollment Council. When not at home in Hamilton, Mass., Ez is making the circuit as New England and Canadian Regional Sales Manager for Keystone Camera Company.

Last April I reported on the promotion of Tom Willers to the position of General Manager of the Eastern Chemical Division of Hooker Chemical Corporation of Niagara Falls, N. Y. Tom has been a vice-president of this corporation since 1957, prior to which he was Comptroller and Treasurer of the company. His executive duties in this later post were recently expanded. In addition to being responsible for the Eastern Chemical Division, he is now responsible for the Phosphorous and Durez Plastics Divisions, and for corporate engineering. Tom joined Hooker in 1941 as a Cost Analyst. He is also Treasurer and Director of a jointly-owned subsidiary of his company and Director and Treasurer of Hooker's marketing subsidiary in New England. A member of the Advisory Board of the Niagara Falls area office of The Marine Trust Company of Western New York, Tom is also a member of the American Management Association, Controllers Institute of America, Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association and the American Institute of Management.

Line Wales, who is on the medical staff of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., has been named Associate Medical Director of the company. He was formerly assistant medical director, a position he assumed when he joined Massachusetts Mutual in 1952. Line is married to the former Gretchen Heald, a Wellesleyite, and they are currently residing in Wilbraham, Mass. There are two small Wales in the family, Cynthia and Eric. Line served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II and was recalled again to active service during the Korean conflict.

Roger and Dodo Haley like Japan so much that they have extended their tour in the Far East, where they are always on hand for functions Of the Dartmouth Club of Tokyo, such as its Fall Season Kickoff and annual Dartmouth Night celebration. Rog has been working on the possibilities of the Tokyo Club helping the Glee Club travel to Japan.

George Denny and George Guerrierri celebrated Dartmouth Night with the Dartmouth Club of Berkshire County, Mass. Norm Locke was recently elected Vice-President of Interviewing of the Dartmouth Club of Bridgeport, Conn., the members of which sampled Janet's cooking at a recent alumni supper. Mort McGinley is the present Vice-President of the Denver, Colo., Club; and Jim Morgan of Cranbury, N. J., is the present Secretary of the Central New Jersey Club. Another New Jerseyite, Harry Douty, is just completing his term as Treasurer of the Monmouth County Dartmouth Club. Doubling in brass, Malcolm Scott of Winter Park, Fla., is the current Secretary-Treasurer of the Central Florida Club. Bruce Brown was among the members of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of San Francisco on hand to greet Governor Nelson Rockefeller on his recent tour of the West Coast. Frank Brooks is a regular attendant of outings sponsored by the Dartmouth Club of Maine. Bobb Barr returned to Hanover last spring, and again in October, to attend the meetings of the Dartmouth Society of Engineers. Jack Devor also went back to Hanover for the October meeting, at which meeting Bob was elected Vice-President of the Society for 1960. Another Thayer School graduate, Roy Nevius, has recently established a Contractors' Estimating Service in his home town of East Haddonfield, N. J. Art Hills made a recent trip to Hanover to participate in the Twin State Tennis Championships. Sam Pratt attended the October inauguration of the President of the Ohio Wesleyan University as Dartmouth's academic delegate. We extend to Bob Mensel our deepest sympathies on the recent death of his father.
