Fred Pideret Jr. has been named an Assistant Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He had been manager of the bank's relations department and, in the new post, will head the bank supervision and relations function.
Francis Reilly writes that he is Director of the Real Estate and Insurance Department of Wilson and Company which sells you the outside and inside of the cow ... meat and footballs. Fran is a Loop commuter, making his home in suburban Hinsdale, Ill., and working in the beautiful Prudential Plaza overlooking Lake Michigan. Nine-year-old Martha Jane is in third grade while John Francis finds himself in kindergarten at six. Fran and Beverly lead a busy life that finds the Old Man traveling quite a bit... to South America in 1957 and 1958. Says he sees R. D. Jones, John Llewellyn, Cy MacKinnon, Bill Stead and Jim Hastings.
Steve Adams says that he has been looking "vainly for 22 years to see my name in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE." Well, Podner. There she is. Steve's teaching Spanish at the University of South Carolina ... and running a Plantation, if I read him right. His home is called "Adam's Pond" in Columbia, S. C. He has "one wife; one son, one mastiff, two Rottwalers and one Pekingese." His home is eight miles from town. The bird hunting is good, but the poachers are better. I Brst saw it in Advertising Age. Then he wrote as Director of Advertising, Joseph Schlitz Brewing Go., Milwaukee. It's Pat Gorman again. He moves from one high ivory tower to another, and comes out winning. God Bless Him. According to the trade journals this is a real job, and we wish Pat the best. He writes that young Pat, injured seriously last summer in a Nevada accident, had to skip this year at Hanover, but will be back in September.
The Gormans also have three lovely daughters, Joanne, 18, at the University of Colorado, Mari, 15, and Gay, 13. Pat recently dined with Skip French and Bob Bosworth, both 1937. He writes that Bob Manegold is one of Milwaukee's most successful businessmen. We hope to have more on Bob later.
Frank H. Wright is the manager on the West Coast for the Glass Container Manufacturers' Institute, a $150 million dollar industry. He and Janette have two daughters, Jean, 19, and Margaret, 17. "Bee" is a Director of the American Society of Association Executives, and travels extensively on the West Coast for the Association.
Pete Talbot is an obstetrician, a gynecologist, and one of the country's leading sports car enthusiasts. Proving the latter claim, Pete spent three months in Europe last summer with the family, and copped fourth place in the 1,000 Km. race at Niirburgring. Back in San Francisco Pete is Treasurer of the local region of the Sports Car Club of America.
Membership Service Director of the Pittsburgh Y.M.C.A. is Dick Tisdale, who can be located in the Steel City at 304 Wood Street, Pittsburgh 22. A stamp collector and camper, Dick is married to the former Loraine Toolin. There is a daughter Demaris, 14, and a son, Bruce, 12. Dick is a Director of the Third International Kiwanis, the Methodist Church, both in Pittsburgh, and the National Membership Board of the Y.M.C.A. A business-camping trip found the Tisdales in the Colorado Rockies last year.
Fort Lauderdale, says Ralph Sethness, is the Gold Coast of America. Ralph owns a General Insurance Agency there and is also President of the Dartmouth Club. It's girl, girl, boy, girl for the Sethness family, but Daddy didn't send along the names.
Carl Boothroyd is enjoying a "pedagogical existence," far above Cayuga waters, he writes. He and Loretta and the kids, Margaret and Dick, live near the Cornell campus, where Carl is a Professor of Plant Pathology.
Jack Ahem is a terse communicator. "I'm a lawyer. My wife is Marge. I play squash. Went to Europe in '58 and Bahamas in '57. Regards."
George Wheelock writes that Bud Walls stopped in to see him out in South Bend. George also got on to see the Boston College drubbing of the Indians at Chestnut Hill.
The sad and shocking news of the month is the untimely death of Bob Carroll, killed with 46 passengers in the Capital Airlines flight that crashed in Virginia, January 19. He had achieved the rank of Captain, USN, as a Submariner during his 20-year career.
