There was standing room only at the Dartmouth College Glee Club Concert at the Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne Saturday evening, April 2. Director Paul Zeller, the Glee Club and the Injunaires regaled an audience of alumni, friends of Dartmouth, prospective members of the Class of 1964, and Philadelphia Country Club members with a varied fare ranging from Dartmouth and other college songs to several Russian numbers and sea chanties. The evening also featured a succulent buffet dinner and dancing to the strains of a top-flight band.
All profits from the Concert go to augment our Club's Scholarship Loan Fund in Hanover, which is presently desperately in need of additional cash for loans. Thanks to the special contributions of 28 alumni who were Concert patrons and to the generosity of the Philadelphia Country Club in making its facilities available at no cost to us, we shall be able to make the largest contribution to the Scholarship Fund in several years.
Earlier the same week, on Monday, March 28, 43 alumni and undergraduates turned out for a special luncheon to hear Dr. John H.Wolf '27M, National Enrollment Chairman for this area, and key enroller James K. Tindie '36 discuss interviewing and enrollment. By now you will have received a form which you can send back to us if you are interested in helping out on interviewing or enrollment and are not already doing so.
At about the time you read these words, the Inter-Club Softball League season gets under way. The first game is scheduled for Thursday evening, May 5. Needless to say, we are always in need of more good players. This year Roger Young '55 will be working with the "old pro," Jack Young '47, in heading up the team. Call Roger at home at MO 4-5540 or Jack during business hours at LO 8-2131 or at home at MI 2-6552.
We have too many other special events coming up in the near future to do more at this time than to mention them. At the April 25 special luncheon, Mike Ellis '39, Managing Director of the Bucks County Playhouse, will speak. On Friday afternoon, May 20, there will be a golf outing on the championship East Course of the Merion Golf Course. On Monday, May 23, there will be another special luncheon, speaker to be announced. Finally, our Annual Picnic is slated for Saturday afternoon, June 25, at Jim Tindie's Valley Forge Farm.
Apart from such special events, we hold forth every Monday luncheon in a separate room at the Dartmouth-Princeton Club, northeast corner of Locust and Camac Streets in downtown Philadelphia. Weekly attendance is growing, and you can help it grow even faster.
As you can see from the above, your Philadelphia Alumni Club sponsors a full and varied fare of activities. The.mere cost of informing over 700 alumni of these events is too much for your Club to bear. Outside of a limited number of mailings, we can afford to send mailings only to those alumni who pay their Club dues.
The moral of the story is a simple one: If you don't want to miss out on the fun, pay your dues for i960 now if you have not already done so. We also need your dues to run our program and, this year, to pay for a new Alumni Directory which we hope to put out. As to the latter, PLEASE send back the Directory questionnaire which you received a few months ago.
At a dinner meeting in Harrisburg, Sidney C. Hay ward '26 (1), guest speaker, reviews the program with officers Richard O'Daniel '35, Victor Macomber '46, and Albert Coons '43.
