THE Big Green spring teams returned from their southern junkets in late March with an overall break-even record of thirteen wins, thirteen defeats and two ties. However, the heavy March snowfall coupled with the usual late arrival of spring forced all teams back indoors during the first ten days of April. The baseball, lacrosse, golf and track teams took turns in the Alumni Gymnasium cage, while the tennis team worked out in the squash courts. At this mid-April writing, however, all teams were back outdoors and eagerly awaiting the start of formal competition, which got underway on the weekend of the 16th.
At this moment the general outlook for most teams is good. The varsity baseball team, if it can improve in hitting, should again finish near the top of the league; and the varsity tennis team also looks promising. The Big Green track squad is rated stronger this spring and should drop only one or two dual meets, while the Dartmouth Rugby Club is picked to retain the Eastern Championship and the Big Green Rowing Club crews look forward to their best season of recent years. Lacrosse could go either way and it's too early to tell here, while the golf team is admittedly weak but is expected to get stronger as the season progresses. The freshman spring teams have barely reported, so we must wait for next month's column before any adequate report can be given on them.
