I am sure the entire class took pleasure in the honor conferred upon Johnnie Watson by the Alumni Council for outstanding service to the College in the Cleveland area - as one of the founders of the Cleveland Club - and for his accomplishments as a citizen and lawyer (the full citation was printed last month). Nice going, Big Boy. Note, an eligible bachelor.
Matt Bullock has been wintering in the British West Indies. His address is - One Norman Road, c/o Roberts, Kingston, Jamaica. Lucky guy - to miss all this freezing winter in New England.
Reunion time is coming. How many of you can and wish to go to Hanover in June - and do you want to go at Commencement time, or a week later when many classes have their reunions? No reservations have been made for rooms - if you will let your Secretary know your choice as to dates, he will make the reservations for you. Jack Childs '09 says he will entertain with high class music.
Card from Carl and Marion Woods from Rio de Janeiro. They are enjoying their trip through South America.
Your Secretary was honored, recently, by the Lenox Kiwanis Club of Lenox, Mass., as one of the founders of the Club, its second President and to celebrate his seventy-ninth birthday and his approaching retirement, May 1, from the investment brokerage business after 56 years in the investment field. It will be a strange experience for your Secretary to relax. He has a good rocking chair.
There was quite a write-up upon the work done by our distinguished author, Thomas W. Streeter, in a recent issue of the New York Times Book Review, covering his published volumes on the State of Texas: To quote the remarks of the reviewer - "It is a monumental work, well done." The Secretary, in writing Tom to congratulate him, told Tom the story of Beck's first trip through Texas, a trip he won from his firm, Harris Forbes and Company, with whom he was associated back in 1915, for being the first salesman to sell one hundred thousand dollars of the City of San Diego Water Bonds. It's a long story, but one of the highlights of Beck's 56 years in the bond business.
The great Dartmouth Medical School quarterback has been found. He is still living at 3239 Scenic Drive, Muskegon, Mich., retired and going strong, as the fourth quarter starts. What a picture it was to see Jimmie Brotherhood tackle Bull Turner, or Fat Gilman, and bring them down too. The General Electric Company never produced a better dynamo.
We shall plan for a reunion in Hanover, June 12-14 which is immediately after Commencement. Any reservations you wish to make for either June 9-11 or June 12-14, please contact me as early as possible.
