THE season of graduate fellowship awards is also at hand, and late in March it was announced that eight Dartmouth seniors have been awarded Woodrow Wilson National Fellowships for the coming year. The awards, covering the first year of graduate study, are designed to interest highly qualified young men and women in college teaching as a career.

Only about one in every ten candidates becomes a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. Candidates must be nominated by college professors and screened by regional committees. This year 1,333 Fellows were chosen from a field of 10,453. In addition to eight winners, seven other Dartmouth seniors were among the candidates who received honorable mention.

Dartmouth's award winners are Michael C. Andrews, Charleston, S. C., and Edward Victor, Flushing, N. Y., English; Stanley P. Bates, Glendale, Calif., philosophy; Stephen Blank, Pittsburgh, political science; Richard R. Raskin, Brooklyn, N. Y., French; and Jon R. Davidson, Forest Hills, N. Y., Stephen Grossberg, Jackson Heights, N. Y., and Maurice F. Norman, Morgan City, La., psychology.

Honorable mention went to Steven L. Bates, Columbus, Ohio, and Henry D. Foster, St. Paul, English; Emanuel C. Ackerman, Long Beach, N. Y., political science; Samuel R. Baker, Seattle, biology; Steven F. Cohn, Highland Park, Ill., sociology; Alan A. Rozycki, Chicago, microbiology; and Michael Steinberg, Lawrence, Mass., economics.
