With the blessing of the Alumni Council at the Cleveland meeting, we are now officially the 126th Dartmouth Club in existence! In recording this fact, I would like to pay tribute to the memory of Jerry Garduno '42, whose untimely death in January shocked us all. Jerry was my close friend and during the past year he proved to be most helpful to "Dan" Daniell '24, Bill Jenkins '54 and myself in organizing the Dartmouth Club of Mexico. Again, our heart-felt sympathy to his widow Joanne and his eight-year-old son Mark....

Our chairman "Dan" Daniell vacationing in various spots around Mexico.... Phil Brooks '42 is now in the full swing of his new activities as Cultural Affairs Officer of the U. S. Embassy. Among many other things, he has traveled in the past months to Veracruz, Guadalajara and Merida (Yucatan) to inaugurate officially in these cities Mexican-American Cultural Institutes. During the trip to the last-mentioned place, he and his attractive wife Kay had an opportunity to visit the famous Maya pyramids and ruins at Chichen-itza. The Brooks have a charming Spanish colonial style house in the quaint suburb of San Angel and one of their recent parties, in honor of Phil's new boss, was a much-talked about social function.... BuddSchulberg '36 travelled to Washington last week in connection with the motion picture script of Attorney-General Robert Kennedy's book, "Enemy Within." Bud, his wife, and two boys are very happy in Mexico and have become enthusiastic and cognizant bullfighting fans. The other day we had a pleasant talk with Budd about our favorite "matadores" (we all agreed that the stars of the 1961 season in Mexico have been two Colombians, Caceres and Joselillo), F. Scott Fitzgerald's ill-fated visit to Hanover in 1939 in connection with the shooting of "Winter Carnival," and the need for more cultural exchanges between the U.S. and Latin America. Am putting part of this talk on a bi-monthly cultural program I do now for radio station HJCK in Bogota, Colombia.

Philip Evans '25 writes from Florida that he will be visiting Mexico soon on business and pleasure. Glad this column is being used as reference point for Mexico-bound alumni. Will be pleased to help out with any information needed, business or vacation-wise. Heard from Bob Hill '42, who continues to follow our activities here with great interest. . . . Your secretary is planning to get away for a few days in April, perhaps to Zihuatanejo, since Acapulco is fast becoming a far-too-expensive "tourist trap." Will try to do some deep sea fishing and get back to work on my last novel, interrupted of late due to hectic pressure at the office and the arrival of our new son Jorge on November 27, 1960. Hasta siempre.

Among those attending a recent meeting ofthe Dartmouth Club of Hawaii were (l to r)sitting: Louis Benezet '36, president of Colorado College; Merrill McLane '42, club president; Allen Woodell '54; standing: RalphVan Orsdel '38 and Allen Suiter '37, enrollment committee members, and Robert McCorriston '57, enrollment chairman.
