A salute to President-Emeritus Ernest Martin Hopkins '01 was given by 115 New Hampshire Dartmouth men at an all-state dinner meeting, May 3 at the Highway Hotel, Concord. He was given the antique door plate Number 1 from the office of the former massive Boston and Maine railroad passenger station, signaling his long directorship with that railroad; his class; and as a native of Dunbarton, New Hampshire's foremost Dartmouth man.
The Merrimack County Association hosted the affair, an outgrowth of the Manchester meeting last year when Manchester, Nashua and Merrimack County groups participated and President John Dickey expressed the idea of a get-together of all New Hampshire alumni.
Bob Blackman, head football coach, was the featured speaker. The film, "Dartmouth Visited," concluded the gathering.
Stephen W. Winship '41, president of the host alumni, presided 'and called the meeting to order with a tin horn on which was scratched that it had been blown at a series of baseball games in 1887 by Albert H. Locke '90. Mr. Locke's nephew, Richard S. Rolfe '21, will give the antique horn to the College Archives. Herbert W. Rainie '06 with piano accompaniment of his son, Dr. Robert C.Rainie '41, led 'the singing of college songs. Judge Benjamin F. Prescott '00 and Dr. Arthur L. Wallace '00 of Milford were the senior alumni present.
Next year's all-state gathering will be held in Nashua.
