Fod Martin is '99's other November birthday boy, 85 on the 28th. We'll tell you more about him and his summer travels in December. A temporary indisposition kept him from the 62nd. Another Round-Up disappointment was the absence of Pitt F. Drew's daughter Sally Baldwin. She and Jim were a long way from Concord on "a trip to Hawaii with three children."
The innumerable friends of Tim Lynch who rejoiced at his returning to his home in Cotuit on Class Round-Up date, July 21, after six weeks in the Cape Cod Hospital at Hyannis have further cause for rejoicing. First the nurses were dismissed; then the doctor even permitted him to drive his car. But don't let your imagination run wild,— he did not drive to the Carolina in Pinehurst, N. C., as usual for winter golf. He flew Probably this year he will give his attention to perfecting his putting!
" Some of you who read the May newsletter may remember that the Warren Kendalls have been busy the last year and a half attending the weddings of three of their four grandchildren. Such readers may well have opened their eyes unusually wide when they read in this column last month that Ninety-Niners were congratulating the Kendalls on the recent arrival of their "first grandchild!" The secretary obviously nodded - or dozed. Thomas Scott Kendall was indeed the "first grandchild" of Bill Kendall '32 and Lucile, but the first GREAT-grandchild of Warren and Helen. And David Hale Whitcomb was likewise the "first grandchild" of Dick Butterfield '30 and Genevieve, but was - please note - the first GREAT-grandchild of Louis P. Benezet and the elder Genevieve. The secretary told you that "99's population explosion" was getting too much for him!
Albert Warren Boston and Nina Elizabeth Boston reached their Golden Wedding anniversary in Athens, Me., last July 18. The actual celebration, according to the Waterville "Sentinel," was on the following Sunday with open house at the home of their daughter Barbara next door, her husband Ray Harville, and their son Pfc. Allen home on furlough after ten months in the Army. The traditional wedding cake was presented by Bert's son Howard of Belgrade and his wife with their four children, - Donna, Diane, Darlene and Doane. Also present was son Warren of Guilford with a gift of goldware for his parents. Nina's sister-in-law, Mrs. Inez Buzzell, had charge of the guestbook. Guests came from many parts of New England. Although Bert celebrates his 88th birthday on November 21 he is still operating the local Gulf Station as he has done since 1933. He and Nina are both active members of the Athens Grange, and the latter has been town clerk since 1940. The Class of Dartmouth '99 sent their classmate and his wife an anniversary card with their congratulations and warm wishes for many years still of active, happy life together. Too bad that Athens is so far from the haunts of other '99ers.
One of the nicest messages to our Concord Round-Up last July was a telegram from Joe Gannon's daughter Genevieve, her husband Winter Read and their daughter Pat: "Pat, Roy, and Joe's five great-grandchildren join us in sending love to everyone of you on this happy occasion. So sorry we could not be with you." By the way, Joe himself is 89 the seventeenth of this month. He had returned to West Hartford from Ogunquit in ample time to celebrate with the family.
