DARTMOUTH MENLUNCHEON EVERY MONDAY NOONUNIVERSITY CLUB, CHICAGO

On April 5 the Glee Club, under the able direction of Paul Zeller, assisted by Student Director Orton H. Hicks '49, gave a concert at Chicago's Drake Hotel. The Concert thrilled our enthusiastic alumni members and wives who packed the hotel's Gold Coast Room. The smooth sweet songs sung by the sturdy sons from the Green hills demonstrated that the Dartmouth College Glee Club is second to none in finished choral singing. Every type of song adaptable to male voices was included in the well arranged program.

Our Dartmouth spirit swelled as the songs of the "Big Green" were sung and our sense of music appreciation was completely satisfied by the time the Glee Club, the Octet and the various soloists had completed their impeccable performances. Soloists Les Richard '51 and Fred Lord '51 proved that they had exceptionally fine voices, but we were particularly impressed by the rendition of "I Remember You" by Bill Embree '50, son of Bill Embree '21. The Glee Club also possesses a talented pianist in Joe Hendrich '50, whose interpretation of the "Sabre Dance" was very impressive.

When the time came to sing "Eleazar Wheelock" a number of our local "Bathroom Vocalists" crowded the stage to show how the song should be sung. Among these, we noticed Bob Borwell '25, Dick Gunthorp '26, DelWorthington '26, Al Benjamin '29, Bob Woodcock '33, Ed Skillin '35, Leonard Florsheim 36, Bob Bensing '39, Gordy Hinners '48 and Dick O'Reilly '48. The concert ended with the incomparable "Dartmouth Undying," after which the room was converted into a night club and a dance was soon underway.

Success for the party is largely attributable to the tireless efforts of Lyn Shollenberger '33, our entertainment chairman, who was actively assisted by our retiring President Bob Critchell '33, Dick Compton '34, Dick Babcock '40, Bunny Coffin (wife of Ax Coffin '24) and Don McKay '20.

Charlie Widmayer '30, editor of ALUMNI MAGAZINE, had lunch with us on March 28. Charlie's principal theme was public relations upon which the College is placing greater emphasis. As an individual promoter of good will, Charlie excelled, as several of the brethren remarked at the conclusion of Charlie's informal talk.

Jack MasOn '15 of Philadelphia, chairman of the Alumni Fund, was also at the luncheon at which Charlie spoke. Jack was introduced by .Hal Clarke '17, his contemporary and former neighbor (when both resided in Dover, N.H).

We have been pleased to see several new faces at our luncheons recently including Frank Youngman '43, who has moved to Chicago from Portland, Oregon, to take a job with American Can Company; and RalphPutnam '37, who is with the law firm of Sears and Streit, Bob Reid '49 and Charlie Becker '45.
