At our weekly luncheon at Kaufmann's the following slate of officers was nominated and elected without a trace of opposition: President, Nathan K. Parker Jr. '52; Vice-president, William T. Duvall '57; Treasurer, Charles J. Queenan Jr. '52; and Secretary, Foster L. Aborn '56. Outgoing president John C. Bird '44 was given a large vote of thanks for his extra-long term in office during which club activities were as varied as they were successful. The Dartmouth Night party, hosted by Mort Burden'32, a Christmas luncheon for undergraduates and their fathers arranged by WayneD. Komara '53 and participation in the Ivy League Golf Tournament under the leadership of Nate Parker Jr. '52 were just a few events which resulted in a large turnout of club members over the past year. Perhaps one of our most successful functions was the Annual Dinner held at the Pittsburgh Golf Club in April. Attendance surpassed that of any recent dinners and, because of the widespread satisfaction with the Golf Club, plans are underway to return there for our next dinner in the spring.
It might be of interest to other club officers to hear of this club's recent success with its annual dues notice. By including a postage-paid return envelope and offering an up-to-date club membership and address list to each member who paid his dues, we almost tripled our usual response to such monetary pleas. Not only did our treasury swell to unheard-of proportions, but interest and participation in our Club's activities seemed to increase as our members came to know each other a little better by reviewing this list.
The usual relaxed and leisurely atmosphere at our weekly luncheon at Kaufmann's has been disturbed somewhat by the forthcoming elections. Maury Baruth '45, who recently won the Democratic nomination for Representative in the Pennsylvania General Assembly from Pittsburgh's 14th Ward and is now campaigning for election to this office, and Craig Kuhn Jr. '42, who last year was re-elected to the Pittsburgh City Council on the Democratic ticket, provide most of the topics to be loudly debated. All Dartmouth men of either party are urged to join this highly vocal group each Wednesday at noon on Kaufmann's eleventh floor.
Although spring seems a long way off, preparations are already started for the appearance of the Glee Club on Friday, March 29. Paul Zeller and company have not been in Pittsburgh for a few years, so a large audience is expected. While a more definite announcement will be forthcoming, any offers of bed and board for the Glee Club members should be directed to RalphLynch Jr. '52 and Tom Schoonmaker '55 who are co-chairmen of this event.
