A pleasant letter from Herford Elliott comments, perhaps a little sadly, about the great changes that have transformed Dartmouth in the course of the years. In particular, prompted by our worthy MAGAZINE'S article on "Hoppy", Herford calls attention to the fact that in our day our beloved "Prexy" Tucker had only two assistants, Hoppy and Mrs. Hoppy. In contrast, how many assistants does President Dickey use? But we realize that the times have changed completely from those of our happily remembered small college. We are pleased that the memory and influence of Dr. Tucker are being carried forward through the William Jewett Tucker Foundation. We wish the new Dean, Charles Dey '52, all success in this position. A word further about Herford: he is a devoted gardener and conservationist and takes much pleasure in his reforesting growth of evergreens, now 20 to 30 feet tall.

Belated congratulations to Gene Musgrove on his 87th birthday last August. He says he stays put for the most part, but his son and daughter-in-law with whom he lives take him for drives in the beautiful Vermont countryside. Gene was quite justifiably gratified that a former pupil of his in 1912 drove some 200 miles recently to express his gratitude for Gene's "kindness."

My attention has been called to the news that James C. Donnelly Jr. Esquire, son of our "Jim," was a speaker at a meeting of the Massachusetts Bar Association in Auburn, Mass., January 27.

Fred Chase has moved into his new house in Dunedin. This is located very near his old home and is much smaller and all on one floor. His address is the same as that given in our '05 directory. Fred has been visited by C.C. Hills. They regret the fewer numbers of '05 men in that vicinity this winter. He very likely has seen Roger Brown by this time, for Roger called me up on January 18 to say that he and Jane were on their way to Florida.

One of my best correspondents, StanleyBesse, writes that he has been practically house-bound for the past four months. We hope that "Tub" may be able to get about more as the days grow longer. Did you read his good letter in the December ALUMNI MAGAZINE? Also the one by C. A. Pierce '06?

A list of donors to the Friends of the Dartmouth Library contains the name of our late classmate, Walter B. Small. His estate has presented the Friends with a group of books and items of Dartmouth memorabilia.

Harry Smith died December 25. After one year with us at Dartmouth, he entered business where he had a successful career. His daughter, Miss Josephine H. Smith with whom Harry lived at their home 51 East Elm St., Chicago, Ill, is a graduate of Northwestern University. She does volunteer work for the Northwestern University Medical School and for Senator Percy's new Illinois Committee.
