It was all football that evening. And what an enjoyable evening it was! Dartmouth men for miles around turned out on Friday, January 8 for a Football Smoker at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association. Many accolades have been heaped on Dartmouth football in recent years. While there have been a number of factors contributing to the resurgence of the Big Green, in the final analysis, it has been the dedication and hard work of Coach Bob Blackman and his staff that deserve the lion's share of the credit. Bob was our guest of honor and principal speaker, and what a grand guy he is. According to Coach Blackman, Dartmouth pride and tradition have been two key ingredients in his winning formula. Yet Bob, himself, has done so much to build Dartmouth tradition.
The sixty alumni in attendance played host to twenty candidates for next year's freshman class and their fathers. Before dinner, Coaches Blackman and Yukicka spoke with these young men about a Dartmouth education and Big Green football. After a fine meal, the entire group gathered for Bob's talk followed by film highlights of the 1964 season. Co-chairmen for the evening, Howard Sodokoff '56 and GusAberle '55, did a magnificent job with the arrangements, complete with cocktails, dinner and cigars.
While it would be impossible to mention everyone, here are a few of those present: Alexander McAliley '45, N. W. Pearson '32, Ernie Roessler '62, Dave Sargent '51, Carl Krogh '41, Frank Lambert '21, Fred Babcock '36, John Webb '56, Karl McGhee '53 and Joe Handrahan '36.
Just a reminder: don't forget the Dartmouth Glee Club Concert to be held Monday, March 29 at the Chatham College Chapel.
