On September 9, the Dartmouth alumni gathered together for a picnic at the home of Tom Curtis '32. The project was supervised by Ed Grace '38, who was greatly aided by the weatherman, by no means a despised assistant during this season in St. Louis. Many of the veteran alumni were there, along with a good representation of the younger alumni and undergraduates. The old-timers took on the young-timers on the field of Softball battle, and by trimming the youngsters by the score of 6-4, proved that in this part of the country age must be respected - as Stan Musial has also shown.

There were some of us who were not in the mood to flex our muscles and swing a bat, and for these the world series of golf provided excellent television entertainment. Here, Jack Nicklaus proved that youth must be served. So we had quite a variety of interests. But first and foremost there was the everlasting pleasure of good fellowship among old associates. There probably were fifty alumni, with wives and children, and probably twenty undergraduates - altogether about 175 persons. There were two Susan Curtises: one the hostess and the other the charming daughter of Frank. Curtis '36. It was also an occasion for learning interesting events in the lives of others. For example, Carl Holekamp '42 had been on a fishing vacation, and almost caught a shark —or vice versa. Marty Kerwin '33 got rain-soaked while camping in the Ozarks over the Labor Day weekend. And Jim Burke '59, now living at 1324 E. 89th St., Kansas City, Mo., got married on Sept. 1. And Harry Deckert '35, a great golfer, shot a hole in one on a 350-yard hole (some say) or on a 150-yard hole (others say). However, Harry minimizes the achievement in view of the fact that his wife, Jukie, accomplished the same thing some time ago. Xt only goes to show, he says, that anything she can do he can do as well.

Incidentally, Deckert is again officiating in high school football games in this vicinity. He consistently shows up at our informal weekly lunches at the Statler Hotel (Terrace Lounge) on Thursdays. These luncheons, very unofficial, are most enjoyable for those of us who attend. So you all come, and get the latest dope on football activity.
